Dear Community members,

I need your help in resolving an issue about our VM hosts.

Our setup is so simple 2 ESXi hosts with a standard switch with windows based vcenter server running on windows server 2008 r2.

ESXi02 is running fine.

ESXI01 local storage on megaraid SAS controller struck on unmount/inactive mode.

When contacted with vmware support, they advised to upgrade the sas driver, which I have now, When tried to update through ssh below error throws. Kindly provide your views on this issue.

ESXI 6.5 VMware Host Client still accessible by other IP addresses

Hello,

I'm trying to limit the access on ESXI machine to a certain number of IP addresses. Although I modified the firewall whitelisting needed IP addresses, the web client is still accessible coming from other IP address. Is not enough to add the IPs in the firewall rule for vSphere Web Client (443 port)?

thank you!

Strange situation with ESXi 6.7 u2, u3 on servers R740XD with the network adapter Broadcom 57416 2x10Gb BT + 2x1Gb BT

Hi all,

Have a strange situation with server R740XD with ESXi 6.7 u2, u3.

After reboot, when ESXi is loaded disappears access to web-control ESXi after some time, access time can be various, but VM's still works normally without any problem.

When I make "Network Testing" via ESXi-control, web-control starts work but not for a long time...

Early I don't notice this problem, but servers had a different network configuration. The problem appeared when using network adapters Broadcom 57416 2x10Gb BT + 2x1Gb BT, with intel adapter I don't have the same problem.

I use VMware ESXi 6.7 update 2 A03 or update 3 A00 with standard configuration.

Iso-images downloaded from the dell.com site.

I use two Broadcom 57416 2x10Gb BT in bond in vSwitch0(one-Active, second-Standby), vSwitch0 using for VLAN VM's and VLAN Management Network.

Broadcom adapters

PS: when I use one network adapter in vSwitch0 all work fine, but I can't use this scheme, because two adapters connect to the various switch and providing reservations. And I can't use 2x1Gb BT adapters, because they have low speed

ESXi file descriptor limit

Hello!

I am using ESXi 6.7.0. Is it possible to increase file descriptor limit on the dedicated server?

ulimit -Hn
1024

ulimit -Sn
256

I am afraid I have exceeded it as our dedicated server produces quite weird network network problems that made us think it is caused by reaching the limit of file descriptors.

Why can I only use CIM with the root account?

I have tested this with my CIM client software (Adaptec Storage Manager) and with curl and I can only authenticate to CIM using the root account with the administrator role assigned. I would like to use a service account with limited access. I have tried using a different role with all permissions assigned just to test but it stills fails 401 unauthorized. I have seen some posts about this being a bug from years ago but i am on ESXI 6.7u2 so I am confused if this is still a bug or not. Any help would be appreciated.

NUC8I5BEH: Config lost during reboot

$

I have a NUC8I5BEH with StandAlone esxi 7(free version) installed on a USB-stick.

Every host-config is lost during and the host is returned to state of installation.

I have also tried to add a USB-Network-interface but it seems like connected USB-devices is not shown in vSphere.

CLI "lsusb" show all connected devices.

I guess it may is some variant of this case => https://serverfault.com/a/557950

How can I solve this?

ESXi 6.5 no internet on VM

$

I have installed ESXi 6.5 ISO on Hetzner machine. I had to use customizer to get working network drivers otherwise installation would not proceed.

After days of fixing this I have got ESXi 6.5 working, but I can't get the VM to share same internet connection as the host/machine. I do not have any additional IPs, I just have a basic server with 1 IP but I have seen setups where people have been able to get internet without problems on the VM with the host/machine IP.

Please don't ask me to search or say it has been solved in many other posts, I promise I tried searching but all results I have seen have such specific setups. I do not want to use pfSense or anything like that. I just want the VM to use same internet connection as the host/machine.

Thank you so much really appreciate any help!

ESXi 7.0 NFS v4.1 Not mounting

$

I ran into something today that I think could be a bug.

Trying to mount an NFS 4.1 share with :

esxcli storage nfs41 add -H 10.10.10.1 -s /data/nfstest -v nfstest

results in:

Unable to complete Sysinfo operation.  Please see the VMkernel log file for more details.: Timeout

Running tcpdump from the NFS server shows that ESXi issues an arp request, but never follows up with communication.

I can ping the NFS server from the host and furthermore:

[root@esx:~] nc -z 10.10.10.1 2049

Connection to 10.10.10.1 2049 port [tcp/nfs] succeeded!

vmkernel.log shows the following relevant lines:

Note the IP 10.10.10.1.8.1. Where did it get .8.1 from?? Between seeing the additional numbers on the address and not seeing communication (besides a single arp request) via tcpdump on the nfs server, it looks to me like NFS might be buggy on ESXi 7. Unless I'm missing something, but I have had good luck with NFS on previous versions of ESXi.

In this one it shows IP 10.10.10.1.0.111. NFSv3 is enabled on the server side. Running tcpdump on the NFS server shows a similar lack of layer 3 communication after the arp requests.

NFS seems to load successfully on boot and my network interfaces are on the HCL.

Can't connect to VPN

Hello all,

I recently began working as an IT Support specialist at one of my local schools. I've been given the task of troubleshooting and fixing the VPN server that is

based in ESXi. I can currently RDP into the server, and ping it by IP and hostname. But I'm unable to connect via VPN. I've been wondering if it was something

within the ESXi firewall.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Having an issue with pretty much all of our new HPE Synergy hosts dropping packets.  When I look at the nic stats I see "Receive over error" counts that match the packets dropped count.  I'm struggling to find a clear explanation of what exactly that metric is though.  Anyone have an idea?

Hi *,

i can access the ESXi console with my root & pw, but not the WebAccess with "root" & pw. The pw is the same, there are no spell / keyboard language issues.

We have a single ESXi 6.5 (4887370), no vCenter. No Domain Account, just local.

I created a support ticket and say I want redirect my subnet to my additional IP to they.

Created a a vSwitch and Port on VMware.

Created a new Router Ubuntu 20.04 machine and edit /etc/networks/interfaces and /etc/sysctl.conf files.

Hi,

Is it possible to subscribe to hotplug events in the hypervisor/ESX kernel (not hotplug for the Guest OS)?

I am developing telemetry software to work across different bare-metal OSes and this is a capability I need. Is this possible in ESX? Any pointers/leads are appreciated.

ESXi 6.5 standalone: Raid5 degraded.... or not?

$

I had a disk crash on my DATA raid5 made by 3x 8TB SATA HDD. The controller is an Adapted 6805T and ESXi has been installed with a custom ISO with vendor specific .vib. It worked fine for years...

Due to a supplier issue the disk was replaced with a different brand (old brand Toshiba, new brand is Seagate), still I read up in Internet and was also reassured by the vendor you can mix and match different HDD make, so I have installed it. Initialised the disk using the controller BIOS, added to the RAID5 and the re-sync immediately started. At that point I restarted the box to allow for ESXi to come back online.

Now... I personally don't think this has anything to do with the different HDD brand here but my issue is: after about 24 hours the RAID5 is still reported as degraded:

However... using arcconf I get a different message:

I'm currently on ESXi 6.5u1 (without vCenter) and have MegaRAID discovery working and can see the status and get alerts but I would like to update to ESXi 6.7.

Has anyone come up with a decent way to monitor and send email alerts about RAID, drive, battery, etc. issues concerning a ESXi 6.7 machine that has a LSI 9260-8i controller card? It seems VMWare and Broadcom will never add support for ESXi 6.7.

Dell R640

6.7.0 Update 3 (Build 14320388)

I worked with the system for months and now that it is on site the iDRAC port works, the VMWare VM network port works (I can ping the running VMs) but the ESXi Management port is not responding.

There is now some question as to the correct port. To test we just connected all 4 of the R640 Ethernet ports to a switch with a laptop and pinged all the IP addresses but the management port never replied.

They even checked the ESXi console and there are no errors and it displays the same IP address I’ve been using.

Is it something odd where you must have the correct port connected at boot or it will not work?
