RAID with "HP Smart Array Controller B120i"

Hello,

I have a problem with the "HP Dynamic Smart Array B120i" controller and the customized HP image:

Server: ProLiant MicroServer Gen8

Tried following images: "VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-Update1-3073146-HP-600.9.4.34-Nov2015.iso" and "VMware-ESXi-5.1.0-Update2-2000251-HP-5.69.2-Nov2014.iso"

The vSphere client recognizes the Smart Array but if I want to add the array to ESXi storage it is only possible to add single physical discs instead of the raid array.
Take a look at the pictures for more details.

Can anybody please explain how to use the B120i controller with ESXi 6. The customized image doesn't seem to solve the problem?

Is it even possible to use this raid controller with ESXi?

Thanks!

[HELP] - HPE DL380 G10 - SmartArray S100i SR

Hello community,

this is mostly a request to confirm my doubts... am I right in assuming that ESXi 6.7.0 HPE Edition does not support the HBA in the title?

That is the integrated Controller in my server and it needed to be cheap...

Smart Array S100i SR does only software raid from what I could understand... am I right?

Is there a way to make it work somehow?

I have connected 4x 4TB drives in Raid5...

Thanks for any help

If this does not work what is a cheap raid card I can throw in this server to make it operational?

Thanks again! o/

ESXi Cert - SAN mismatch

Hi

I am running into a strange issue. After my ESXi host has completed it's installation, when I try join it to vCenter, the VC refuses to join the host. It errors out about the host name not matching the name in the self signed cert. I know there is a KB that say just re-generate the cert. My issuse is I am trying to understand why when I use the same boot process I intermittently get this issue.

At a high level my hosts are all built via PXE boot and the run a kickstart script that does some basic setup then when the hosts reboots there is a first boot scritp that will configure the host name and static IP. At which point it will be joined to the VC.

Some pointers would be helpful

ESXi 5.1 / 5.5 u1,2,3 on HP BL460c G7 - psod

Hi,

I'm upgrading some of our older blades (bl460c G8 and G9's passed without a hitch) to esxi5.5, but the installer keeps crashing.

I've been trying every update of the 5.1 and 5.5 customised HP images, to no avail.

Installer seems to launch, but then PSOD's as soon as the network drivers load (that's what I concluded). I applied the latest Proliant service pack (2015.10.0), so firmwares are as up to date as can be (interesting note: with the older 2011 firmware the host installed successfully, but network was unusable)

Some 5.5u3 (hp cust) screens:

Here the installer stops loading:

HPcust-esxi5.5u3-BL460cG7-loading.jpg

And then it psod's:

HPcust-esxi5.5u3-BL460cG7-psod.jpg

Any suggestion or other resource I could give a try (Tried some vanilla esxi iso's as well, didn't help) ? I'd really like these ones to join the main cluster, a RAM upgrade and they could be running smoothly for another couple of years.

The object has already been deleted or has not been completely created - pyvmomi

Hi Team,

I'm using pyvmomi, facing one issue intermittently. I'm using following function to get the VM object by passing VM Name, this method sometime throws "The object 'vim.VirtualMachine:vm-4078' has already been deleted or has not been completely created" error (This error occurs at line  if c.name == vm_name: line). Any suggestion on handling this issue is much appreciated. Thanks.

def get_vm_by_name(self, content, vm_name=None):

   try:

         vm_obj = None
         container = content.viewManager.CreateContainerView(content.rootFolder, [vim.VirtualMachine], True)

          for c in container.view:

              if vm_name:

                  if c.name == vm_name:

                      vm_obj = c

                      break

        return vm_obj

   except Exception as ex:

   raise Exception("failed to get vm details")

Please note that, same API had returned result for the same VM few seconds before.

I am trying to install ESXi on my server.

During installation I get the message 'no network adapters'.

It is a Gigabyte ga-h77n-wifi MOBO and ESXi version 7.0.

I have tried versions 6.5 and 6.7 before but that didn't work out.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

503 Service Unavailable Failed to connect to endpoint:

Hi,

One of our ESXi 6.0 hosts was reporting back to vcenter and was accepting connections from the fat client, however connections to the host directly via https were being immediately redirected back to the log in page with "Failed to load host summary" error in all browsers.

SSH works

after we attempting to restart hostd and vpxa we are seeing "503 Service Unavailable" instead of the log in page via HTTPS, esxi is no longer showing up as connected to vcenter, but we can still SSH to the host.

vmkfstools --growfs returning Error: No such file or directory

Hi all,

i am trying to grow a datastore. I follwed this guide:  VMware KB:    Growing a local datastore from the command line in vSphere ESXi 4.x and 5.x

Everything went fine up to the last step. I checked after and the end sector had been correctly changed for the datastore partition. Also verified the partition was at the end of the table with the free space after it.

When I try the last command "vmkfstools --growfs" it always comes back with "Error No such file or directory":

vmkfstools --growfs "/vmfs/devices/disks/t10.ATA_____Samsung_SSD_850_EVO_500GB_______________S21JNX

AG598701W_____:3" "/vmfs/devices/disks/t10.ATA_____Samsung_SSD_850_EVO_500GB_______________S21JNXAG598701W_____:3"

Not found

Error: No such file or directory

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Toni

Not able to access VMware ESXi free version from Ubuntu 20.04

I run Ubuntu 20.04 and Windows 10 pro on a dual-boot computer. When on Ubuntu, I have both tried to access my ESXi server through a browser and through my VMware workstation pro that I have installed on Ubuntu 20.04 but in both cases I am unable to access it. When I try to connect to it using VMware workstation, it tells me a connection to the server could not be established and when I try the same thing from a browser, it is unable to connect. The interesting part is that when I switch to Windows 10, I have no trouble accessing my ESXi server. How is that possible? Any help would be appreciated.

Upgrade ESXi 6.0u2 to u3

Hi guys,

I've tried a few different routes to upgrading my HP DL360, Gen 7s from 6.0u2 to u3 and failed. tried to upload the iso to Update Manager and that fails.

Then tried to boot from iso and upgrading via mounting the iso, that also failed.

Downloaded the iso from vmware portal. tried the standard version "VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.0.0.update03-5050593.x86_64" that failed to upload to Update Manager and failed to upgrade via mounting.

Then downloaded pre Gen9 iso, again from the vmware portal, "VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-Update3-9313334-HPE-preGen9-600.9.8.5.4-Sep2018" that again has failed. i dont want to have to rebuild from scratch as it requires a lot of manual config post built.

i'm running vCenter version 6.5

I'm sure DL360 Gen 7 is compatible to run/install ESXi6.0u3, has anyone had the same problem?

Cannot download Vsphere Hypervisor 6 (free) - download link does not work

This has been happening since at least Saturday, and others have reported this as well (in the regular Hypervisor forums).

https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/evalcenter?p=free-esxi6

Neither the "manually download" nor the "Download Manager" links do anything.

I've tried 6 different computers (Windows XP and Windows 7 Home and Windows 7 Enterprise), 4 different web browsers (IE10, IE11, Firefox, chrome), and 3 different ISP (Verizon FIOS, Road Runner, and whoever supplies our Corporate LAN--AT&T or something).

I'm not sure VMware is even aware that there's an issue.

Getting error: The capacity of the parent virtual disk and the capacity of the child disk are different (67).

Hi,

I was trying to increase the hard disk space of a 10GB linux vm to a 20GB. I shut down the vm then ssh'd into the ESXi server. From there I ran the command:

vmkfstools -X 20G Apatite.vmdk

The command ran successfully. Then, when I powered up the vm I got and still am getting:

Reason: The capacity of the parent virtual disk and the capacity of the child disk are different.
Cannot open the disk '/vmfs/volumes/503fd5b8-d1cef086-eb4a-10bf487b38db/Apatite/Apatite-000001.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

I have tried numerous things such as cloning the Apatite.vmdk to Apatite-repaired.vmdk. That works, however, I am getting an older version of the VM. i am not getting my changes from either Apatite-000001.vmdk or Apatite-000001-delta.vmdk.

I have some really important work on my VM that I am trying to restore. I should have backed it up before doing anything but I did. Now it seems like I am paying the price.

Can anyone help me recover my VM? Is there a way to increase the size of the snapshot (Apatite-000001.vmdk) or reduce the size of the parent so they match and the vm starts up?

Please help.

Thank you

ESXI 6.7 Removing Datastore: Setting Scratch location back to non-persistence

$

Having problems removing a datastore and noticed the vSphere client does not let me set advanced settings such as:

ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation
ScratchConfig.CurrentScratchLocation

to

[] /scratch/log/.locker

Any ideas on the solution? I suspect the issue is with vSphere and having to directly go the esxi portal or shell in.

Update

shelled in:

mkdir -p /tmp/scratch

On vSphere I changed the advanced setting ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation to /tmp/scratch but anytime I try to set ScratchConfig.CurrentScratchLocation to /tmp/scratch or /tmp/scratch/.locker I get an error message.

I briefly went through VMware Knowledge Base and it mentioned a restart was needed for that setting to be changed so I restarted. But when I went back to the hosts advanced settings those settings were reset back to the original datastore?
