I have 5 windows-10 VMs running on a ESXi node. On each VM is a application call Hiperwall Sender. This is a content management system and on the admin GUI I'm getting an error every 20 minutes that the applications are disconnecting. It re-connects almost instantly, but I'm wondering whats generating this error. I've run this application on workstation pro with no issues and on a physical PC with no issues. I only experience this issue when running the app on a ESXi node. Is there some sort of background process that may be causing this?

ESXI 6.5 host randomly rebooting
I have a host that has been running good for about a year. The other day it has started to randomly reboot, sometimes every ten minutes sometimes 24 hours. I believe it is hardware related. What logs should I be looking into?
Upgrade standalone ESXi host from 5.5 to 6.5
Pls advise, I have 2 separate standalone ESXi hosts that are currently running ESXi 5.5. These are IBM HS22 and IBM HS23 physical blade servers. They are not clustered, just standalone individual ESXi hosts. I'm about upgrade the ESXi hosts directly to ESXi 6.5, by choosing the "(x) Upgrade ESXi, preserve VMFS datastore" option. I just need to confirm if i will be able to powerup my VMs, after the upgrade is done, with no issues whatsoever? whether the VMs will be able to run or will be compatible to the newer upgraded ESXi hypervisor version? Thanks

Best upgrade path or method for upgrading ESXi 5.5 on 4GB SD card to 6.5?
A few questions:
1. What is the best way to determine how much space ESXi is currently using when booting and run from an SD Card on a HP server with no local hard drive?
2. VMware says that 1GB minimum is required for installation of ESXi on a SD Card but 5.2GB is recommended for 6.5. We have a few ESXI hosts running at 5.5 that we're looking to upgrade to 6.5. Can this be done on the cards we're using? If not, how do we get from 5.5 to 6.5 on new cards? Will that require a fresh install/configuration or can the 4GB card be copied to a bigger card and then upgraded without interrupting existing the ESXI configuration?
Dell R310 to 6.0.x
Hi, has anyone successfully upgraded a Dell PE R310 to ESXi 6.0?
I checked and its not on the VMware "official' HCL listing.
is this because of the processor that it's not on the HCL for 6.0.x?
Esxi 5.5 Storage Problem

Any advice or what can i do about that situation ? i think information isn't full here so if you need more details ask me and ill provide more information. Thanks
Problem adding physical SATA disk as RDM in ESXi 6.7
I followed the instructions in this guide to add the disk to my Windows 2016 server guest VM.
How to passthrough SATA drives directly on VMWare ESXI 6.5 as RDMs · GitHub
So, the drive appears and it recognizes the size in Windows. However, the problem is that it shows as a RAW partition in Windows although the drive has data in it. I don't recall if it is formatted as NTFS or exFAT, but the partition scheme is GPT. The drive is 4TB and has a single partition.
Any ideas?
Reconnecting disk to datastore after RAID array rebuild
Hello,
Yesterday one of our ESX datastore drives died and was replaced. The datastore disk was a part of RAID5 and was rebuilt soon after, but ESX hasn't reconnected the disk to the datastore.
On ESX GUI, I can see the disk and that it still has the data on it, but it is not connected to the datastore.
esxcli storage vmfs extent list:
Mount Point | Volume Name | UUID | Mounted | Type | Size | Free |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
datastore2 | 5795f52e-3d31e7e0-fc5d-5ef3fcdae3d3 | false | VMFS-unknown version | 0 | 0 |
How can I set the mount point of the datastore to the replaced disk? It has a new ID and probably that's why it didn't connect to the DS automatically.

Esxi 6.5.0 stopped booting
I have a small Esxi install at home with 6.5.0 release build 8294253 installed. Booting it up has never been a problem until now when it stops when it says "vmkapi_v2_1_0_0_vmkernel_shim loaded successfully." I have tried the following below
I have tried updating to 6.5.0 u1 and u2 with no luck
I haven't made any hardware changes - it has worked for months
I tried updating the firmware on the motherboard with no luck
Last thing I haven't tried is a full reinstall of VMware Esxi but I was trying to preserve my 3 VMs I have built on it.
Any help is appreciated
esxi psod
hi,
I could not access the esxi server when moving virtual machines to another esxi host. I have a little research vm tool version I think there is a problem. Could this be because of the vm tools version ?
why esxi host was inaccessible. the same version vm tool is not installed on every server. I don't remember which virtual server I've had this problem with while moving but I want to understand this problem it was due to vm tools ? Also I added a screenshot about ESXi PSOD

Strange situation with ESXi 6.7 u2, u3 on servers R740XD with the network adapter Broadcom 57416 2x10Gb BT + 2x1Gb BT
Hi all,
Have a strange situation with server R740XD with ESXi 6.7 u2, u3.
After reboot, when ESXi is loaded disappears access to web-control ESXi after some time, access time can be various, but VM's still works normally without any problem.
When I make "Network Testing" via ESXi-control, web-control starts work but not for a long time...
Early I don't notice this problem, but servers had a different network configuration. The problem appeared when using network adapters Broadcom 57416 2x10Gb BT + 2x1Gb BT, with intel adapter I don't have the same problem.
I use VMware ESXi 6.7 update 2 A03 or update 3 A00 with standard configuration.
Iso-images downloaded from the dell.com site.
I use two Broadcom 57416 2x10Gb BT in bond in vSwitch0(one-Active, second-Standby), vSwitch0 using for VLAN VM's and VLAN Management Network.
Broadcom adapters
PS: when I use one network adapter in vSwitch0 all work fine, but I can't use this scheme, because two adapters connect to the various switch and providing reservations. And I can't use 2x1Gb BT adapters, because they have low speed
Provisioned storage larger than physical capacity
Hi,
I must be thick (pun intended), but I cant work this one out. I have an esxi5.5 with datastores on local raid controller. Please take a look at the attached screenshot.
The thin provisioned disk size is 6.6TB on datastore0 for "Hard disk 3", while physical capacity is reported correctly (5.45TB). It's not possible to decrease the provisioned size of the virtual disk. The guest OS shows disk "Hard disk 3" as 6.84TB but only containing one 3.19TB partition and the remaining space is unallocated.
No snapshots exists. Why would thin provisioned size be overbooked when no more than the currently used 1.96TB has ever been used on this datastore? Can it be undone?
Thanks!
Dan
IBM system x3850 x5 firmware issue to support 6.0u3 as per VMware HCL
Hi,
We have IBM System x3850 X5 7143-B2G rack mount servers that we are planning to upgrade to ESXi 6.0u3. The hardware is withdrawn and the firmware listed under the VMware compatibility matrix guide for the I/O devices are not available on the IBM fix central url for the server model.
IBM Fix Central url
Below are the running devices with drivers and firmware version on the ESXi 6.0u3 and url to the VMware compatability matrix guide
Device: Intel Corporation 82580 Gigabit Network
Driver: igbn
Version: 1.4.1
F/w: 3.19.0
Compatible up to 6.7 U3. The driver is up to date,
https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=io&productid=19798
Device: Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5709 1000Base-T Network
Driver: bnx2
Version: 2.2.6b.v60.2
F/w: 7.4.0
Compatible up to 6.7 U3. The driver is up to date. But firmware has to be upgraded to 7.10.
https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=io&productid=3242
Device: QLogic Corp ISP2532-based 8Gb Fibre Channel to PCI Express HBA
Driver: qlnativefc
Version: 2.1.73.0
F/w: 5.03.06
Compatible up to 6.7 U3. But the Firmware is not matching. It should be 8.08.xx. Also the driver is not up todate. The laest driver is 2.1.94.0-1.
https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=io&productid=42002
Question: Since the product is withdrawn and the firmware cant be upgraded as per VMware HCL, can it be safe to run the ESXi upgraded and running to 6.0u3 or what should we do?

Licencing - Help
I apoligise if this is in the incorrect place.
I looking for a little help
I have setup esxi on a host (128gb ram) 2cpu(10cores each) hyperthreaded i currently have 4 vm's setup on this in a evaluation.
i have also setup vCenter as i want to run Veeam backup solutions.
Do i need a licence for esxi Host & vCenter licence? if so which vCenter licence would you buy?

ESXi on a MacBook Pro 11,4 or newer
I have been trying to install ESXi 6.0, 6.5, or 6.7 on a MacBook Pro 11,4 and 11,5 bare metal to no avail. When I tried on a MacBook Pro 11,2 there were no issues. The installer recognized the Thunderbolt 2 Ethernet adapter and continued. However, with MacBook Pro 11,4 and 11,5 the installer doesn't recognize the Thunderbolt 2 Ethernet adapter and doesn't continue.
Given this failure, I have tried to make an image that has USB to Ethernet drivers built in, but still no success.
What can I do to troubleshoot? Are there any known issues or workarounds?
Thanks!
ESXi 5.5- been rebooting in the morning
Hello,
I am running a few VM's on ESXi 5.5. For the past two days it's been rebooting and I can't figure out why. It's not a power issue as I have other computers plugged into the same APC strip.
How can I troubleshoot this issue?
Thanks in advance!
