Hi All,

  Been searching via google but, can't seem to find anything that specifically states what types of packets

PKTTX/s     MbTX/s     PKTRX/s     MbRX/s     %DRPTX     %DRPRX

consist of.  I would assume TCP & UDP but, hoping that someone could point me to vmware documenation or internet articles/conversations that may discuss this topic.

VMware ESXI Genshin Impact with Windows 10 OS (Hide virtualization from guest OS)

$

As the title says I'm trying to get Genshin Impact to run on a Windows 10 VM on VMware ESXI version 6.7. It's taken quite a long time but so far I've managed to set up a VM with a NVidia Geforce 2070 passed through to the vm. I added the line ```hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = "FALSE"``` to the vmx file and hooked up a dummy monitor to the GPU to allow Parsec to remotely connect to it. I've tested several games such as Minecraft Java Edition, Subnautica Below Zero(running on Steam), and Rocket League(running on the Epic Games Launcher) and they all work fine.

After looking for a while on line I've come up with several more lines to add to the vmx file that seem to fix a similar problem with a game called Sword of the New World. However, when I run Genshin Impact it still comes up with a gui saying "Sorry, this application cannot run under a Virtual Machine."

I have also found that if running the vm off of KVM with Linux(which I am not willing to do after spending three weeks teaching myself how to setup ESXI with a VM that can be remotely accessed with parsec) apparently upon adding

```
<cpu mode='host-passthrough' check='none'>
...
    <feature policy='disable' name='hypervisor'/>
</cpu>
```

to the xml file, Genshin Impact works just fine.

I feel that there must be an equivalent string I can add to the vmx file for VMware ESXI that would do the same thing but after quite a bit of research I haven't found anything that works. I did come across a lot of users and forums that explain that it will not work on Shadow or virtual box, but nothing about VMware. Does anybody know an equivalent command for ESXI?

Architecture Suggestion

Wondering if someone could bless this or suggest optional design.

I have three Servers connected via a pair of stacked Switches (dedicated to iSCSI and vMotion) to an iSCSI SAN.  Currently I am using the built in 1Gbps ports as follows:

vSwitch0

nic0 - LAN

vSwitch1

nic1 - iSCSI

nic2 - iSCSI

nic3 - iSCSI (vMotion enabled)

The iSCSI links are spread across the two switches so that if one goes down, connection to SAN will not be lost.  Each host has only about 5 VMs on it so in order to obtain some more density and not saturate the single LAN port I have obtained new Intel I350-T4 NICs that I will be installing this weekend.

New design will be (vCenter is on LAN)

vSwitch0

Broadcom nic0 - LAN LAG1

Broadcom nic1 - LAN LAG2

vSwitch1

Broadcom nic2 - iSCSI vMotion LAG1

Broadcom nic3 - iSCSI vMotion LAG2

vSwitch2

Intel nic0 - iSCSI

Intel nic1 - iSCSI

Intel nic2 - iSCSI

Intel nic3 - iSCSI

Not sure if I should configure VLANs on switches?  Or maybe run Fault Tolerance and vMotion as two different VLANs on vSwitch 1 over 2Gbps LAG?

I can conceive of the concepts but flipping all the right switches is the tough part.

Appreciate anyone's insight.

MegaRAID SAS 9341-4i incompatible with ESXI 7.0 U1?

I'm setting up a new server right now, my main controller (Broadcom 9440-8i) was detected automatically by ESXI and the NVMe RAID is working fine.

However, Broadcom 9341-4i is not detected. I checked the VMware compatibility guide and downloaded driver "lsi_mr3 version 7.705.09.00-1OEM" which is listed for ESXi 7.0 U1.

After a reboot I was greeted with a pink debug screen:

PSOD_ESXI7.jpg

I used the following command to install the driver:

esxcli software vib install -v /vmfs/volumes/xxxx-xxxx-xxxx/drivers/lsi-mr3-7.705.09.00-1OEM.670.0.0.8169922.x86_64.vib

OnBoard Raid

I am using 6.7.0 Update 2 and have a second machine with an msi z490-a motherboard. I am currently running windows 2016 server on this and thinking about installing VMware

Will VMware recognize the onboard raid on the msi z490-a motherboard or do I need to purchase a PCIe card?

Good afternoon, dear administrators.

Please tell me the reasons for the blue screen, I suffer for a very long time. !!! It appears in different time periods approximately once 40-60 days.

Intel Corporation s2600gz server. ESXI 5.5 itself runs on flashe disk. Next, the virtual machines lie on the Synology RS3412 NAS storage via a SCSI controller with RAID-5. Tell me where to dig and what could be the reason ? I would be very grateful.

Keyboard input not being detected when trying to access UEFI settings.

So I'm following the Fling for Raspiberry Pi instructions downloaded from the ESXi Arm Edition | VMware Flings  site.

I've updated the Pi's EEPROM through the PI OS update process and have copied over the RPi firmware boot folder (minus the kernel files), and UEFI folder contents to a mSD card (FAT32).

When the RPi boots to the splash screen but I can't hit escape to access the UEFI settings. The keyboard inputs are not detected. In fact, the keyboard itself isn't getting any power. Reimaging the mSD card with Pi OS brings everything back so it's not a hardware issue.

I've tried several mSD cards, different keyboards and am even running the keyboard through a powered USB hub.

Has anyone come across this and can suggest any fixes?

I'll attempt to hook in through serial in a couple of days when I can get my GPIO to serial USB adapter back but until then am stuck with HDMI and USB keyboard.

ESXi 7.0 - Free vs Paid Licenses

I've installed HPE Customized Image ESXi 7.0.0 (version 700.0.0.10.5.5 released on June 2020 and based on VMware ESXi 7.0.0) and have been using it in evaluation mode for a while. I want to learn if I can keep using the free version with some limitations after the evaluation period ends.

I've found this announcement by VMware but I couldn't find a detailed explanation of what limitations the free version (i.e., ESXi 7.0.0) have.

Could you help me with this?

vSphere HA FDM VIB

Hi,

I have read the documentation (ESXi-Arm-Fling-Doc.pdf) regarding adding the Raspi4 nodes with ESXi for ARM installed to a vCenter and enable HA.

I could add the nodes to a cluster in vCenter, but i can't install the HA agent. The documentation explaines:

Download the specific FDM VIB from the ESXi-Arm Fling site for your version of your vCenter Server. At launch of the fling, vCenter Server 7.0d (Build 16749653) and vCenter Server 7.0c (Build 16620007) are supported.

However, where do I find this VIB? I can't see it on the ESXi ARM Fling page, here I can only download the ISO.

I'm ver ysorry if I have missed somethign very obvious, but I really can't find the VIB to downlaod it an install it on the nodes to get HA up and running.

Hope someone can help me with a braod hint.

Thanks in advance.

I know changing a system board with windows, its recommended to fresh install the os. Are there any hardware changes with ESXi that a reinstall would be recommended?

Sudden VM console keyboard input failure of the 6.7.0 Update 3 hypervisor.

Not sure what went wrong, but all of a sudden, I can't use my keyboard to control any VMs via their web console.

Using the latest chrome normal keys (a-z,0-9) do not generate any response from the vm, whereas up and down keys scroll up and down on the console's history, even if the VM is showing a setup screen which normally would intercept these inputs.

While using non chromium MS edge, keyboard inputs work as they should.

Looking at the developer console (both edge & chrome), I see many errors for "Unknown class found TooManyWrites" that is triggered from main.js

Any idea what could have gone wrong? This setup was working before.

Failed to create VMFS datastore - Cannot change the host configuration

I try to add a LUN as a new Datastore, provided from a HPE MSA 2040 SAS, using a HPE 241 SAS HBA to a vSphere 6.7 System.

The HW is a HPE Proliant 380 Gen9 Server. The MSA2040 is direct attached using SAS Controllers.

The LUN is available in the MSA Utility Software and shown in the "Add Datastore" Wizard as expected.

But during the "Add Datastore" procedure, I get the error "Cannot change the host configuration".

Please find below the summary details of the "Add Datastore" Wizard:

General

Name: MSA2040VDISKA

Type: VMFS

Datastore size: 2.64 TB

Device and Formatting

Disk/LUN: HP Serial Attached SCSI Disk (naa.600c0ff0001e3b26fc879d5f01000000)

Partition Format: GPT

VMFS Version: VMFS 6

Block Size: 1 MB

Space Reclamation Granularity: 1 MB

Space Reclamation Priority Low: Deleted or unmapped blocks are reclaimed on the LUN at low priority

Looking to the device on the ESX Console, is not showing any existing partition on this LUN:

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this error?

Is anyone may be able to help or point me to the root cause of this error?

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards Bernd

ESXi Windows 10 VM boot with UEFI BIOS

$

I'm trying to enable virtualization on my Windows 10 VM so I can use Docker WSL2.

Docker gives me this error:

"Please enable the Virtual Machine Platform Windows feature and ensure virtualization is enabled in the BIOS."

When I enter the Windows 10 VM BIOS I don't get the UEFI page, I get an old looking EFI page (image attached).

From here I cannot seem to enable virtualization.

My ESXI settings for the Windows 10 VM are set to:

Windows 10 VM:

    VM Options:

       Boot Options:

           EFI (selected)

           Enable UEFI secure boot (checked)

Any guidance on this would be much appreciated.

Cannot Open Web Or Remote Console

Dear all,

I recently upgraded my lab server to ESXi 6.7. Everything worked fine until I tried to access my virtual machines using VMRC (Remote Console)

If I open VMRC trough Chrome or Firefox, It shows an authentication screen and it doesn't matter what I enter on it. never authenticates.

With browser console, it fails to connect to virtual machine console

And with new window browser console, it shows only the vmware logo page

I do not have this issue with Microsoft Edge or with Opera browsers.

Do you have any idea what it is happening?

Thank you for your attention.

The VM Configuration Was Rejected

I am having an issue creating VMs on an iSCSI LUN that I have connected to my Raspberry Pi (8GB).  I am getting the error that "the VM Configuration was rejected", but I don't see any other information to help me determine why it was rejected.  Can anyone clue me in on what I'm doing wrong here?

USB datastore disappears after trying to create VM

$

I built an ESXi instance on an 8GB Raspberry Pi using a 256Gb USB stick (plugged directly into the USB 3.0 port on the Pi).  I did a SHIFT+O at boot and enabled AutoPartition.  It automatically created a 100+ GB partition for the OS, and a 100+ GB partition for the datastore.  When it first boots up, I am able to see the space in the datastore.  But, as soon as I try to create a new VM, or upload an ISO to the datastore, it fails, and the space available in the datastore goes to 0 bytes.  I am still able to operate in the console, so I assume the USB is still accessible.  I've tried re-scanning and rebooting the PI, but it does not make the USB datastore accessible again.

Does anyone know what's causing this?  I'd like to be able to use the remaining space on the USB stick.

FYI, I was able to mount an iSCSI LUN from my Synology NAS and created another datastore on that.

How to add a Hard disk drive direct to VM on ESXi?

$

Hi guys,

I installed ESXi 7.0U1 on Dell R630 server. My hardware:

- CPU E5 2680 v4 (2 CPUs)

- RAM 128 GB DDR4 2400 MHz ECC Reg (16 GB x8)

- SSD 240GB x2 (RAID 1) for ESXi installing

- SSD 960GB x5 (RAID5 +1 Spare) for Datastorage (all VMs are location here)

- HDD 2 TB stand alone (non RAID)

Now I create one VMware 03 and I want to add HDD 2 TB stand alone direct to this VM.

Purpose: backup data from VM to this hard disk, if server have any issue, I will connect this hard disk to other PC to take backup files

Could you please show me how to do this?

# I have an option to connect this HDD direct to VM via USB connect, but I still want to connect it via SATA interface if it possible.
