Hello,
any information will be greatly appreciated:
I have 6.5 and 6.7 ESXi standalone (working a few hours a day), shutdown button in web, ssh or console sometimes causes reboot instead of shutdown.
Guests are stopped, host is in maintenance mode.
Any ideas?
Thank you!

My environment in esxi 6.7 and vcenter 6.7
I recently noted an ESXi host in my vCenter environment had a warning (not responding). The event log shows Error Cannot synchronize host. I also cannot login to the host using the vSphere client or web client using the root login.
In the event log i have found :
Alarm 'Host hardware sensor state' on
triggered by event 402334117 'Sensor -1 type , Description Intel Corporation Xeon E7 v3/Xeon E5 v3/Core i7 DMA Channel 0 #4 state assert for . Part Name/Number N/A N/A Manufacturer N/A'
It should also be noted that I can login to the host directly via KVM and access the Shell.
However, the KVM access runs extremely slow, i have must to wait to enable ssh for a few time.
This is was happened on time, then services.sh restart helps me.
Could you help me find the cause of this problem?
Hi,
i need to limit the datastore quota for a specific group, ex. they can only allocate 1TB of 10 TB datastore for their vm's.
CPU and RAM is possible with ressource pools, but how can i achieve this with datastores?
Hello. Since today I'm having this problem. I have 3 ESXi servers version 6.7.0, build 7872652 and ESXi build 8169922.
Today, I can only login with the browser in one of them. The passwords are ok, the proof of that is I can login locally. Yesterday I added one account (read only) for zabbix monitoring, but on the other server that i can't login also, The account was created last week and I've been able to login (browser) without any issues.
I can login in both of them with the recently created "zabbix" read only account.
When I logged in locally a while ago, I've enabled SSH. Then I could briefly log in with the browser. After disable SSH, no more web browser access.
Any ideas please?
vcenter is lost , how to remove DVS related information from esxi .
How to bring the ESXI to day one state without reinstallation.
Hi all,
After running for a long time without any problems. Some vms started to hang.
They're not reacting on anyting. The CPU usage is 0 Hz and if you try to take over the vmware console of the vm, the connection will be interupted.
So I started to dig in the logs of the virtual machine, and found a lot of log entries like this:

Hello everyone,
I'm currently in the process of setting up a PXE server for installation of multiple linux distrons including ESXi 6.7. The server is set up to serve Legacy as well as UEFI installations.
Thanks to multiple guides I could find on the internet, including vmware.com, I could set up the server and the ESXi Legacy installation runs fine. However, there are 2 issues, I simply cannot find an answer for:
Legacy Boot:
Everytime I load the mboot.c32 I receive the message "Network Boot: MAC address not found. Add 'BOOTIF= ... Replace with MAC address of the boot interface"
Since the the server is meant to install the OS on always different host machines, which MAC address am I supposed to provide here and how? Or can this message be disregarded? Is there a way to mask the message entirely?
This is the code in the ipxe boot menu for legacy boot:
:esxi67vm
echo Starting VMWare ESXi 6.7 Installation
dhcp
kernel -n mboot.c32 http://${server}/vmware/esxi67/mboot.c32
imgargs mboot.c32 -c http://${server}/vmware/esxi67/boot.cfg
boot mboot.c32 || goto failed
UEFI Boot:
Booting the installer works fine but always hangs in the last step with the message : Shutting own firmware services... Using 'simple offset' UEFI RTS mapping policy
Is there something I'm missing?
This is the code in the ipxe boot menu for uefi boot:
:esxi67vm
echo Starting VMWare ESXi 6.7 Installation
dhcp
kernel -n mboot.efi http://${server}/vmware/esxi67/mboot.efi
imgargs mboot.efi -c http://${server}/vmware/esxi67/boot.cfg
boot mboot.efi || goto failed

I am not able to attach a USB HDD to a virtual machine.
The disk has previously been attached to another virtual machine,
but it isn't showing in the UI-configuration of any of my VMs.
One vmx file has this entry, that maybe causes the issue:
usb.autoConnect.device0 = "path:1/9 autoclean:1"
I suppose editing the vmx and rebooting should solve the issue.
But is there a way to detach it without rebooting the VM?
Hello
I have two Dell R610 servers that works well with 6.5. I'm looking to upgrade to 6.7 on one but the CPU is not supported. Is it possible to replace the motherboard in a R610 with one that supports the 6.7 CPU's? I ask this since I think it may be cheaper to go this route that purchase another server. I know this may be a Dell forum question but since this is a popular server someone may have an idea.
Thanks
Hi,
I've just this afternoon built a new test ESXI 6.7U2 host using the latest ISO file which is 6.7U2 build 13006603.
The host has 16GB RAM. I have two disks - one 40GB for the installation - ESXI has allocated some of this to a datastore, plus an additional 80GB allocated as a datastore.
I have told ESXI to use the second (80GB) data store for the swap/cache files as recommended.
I'd like to apply the 13644319 patch, but am getting [Errno 28] No space left on device erros when trying to apply it.
I've placed the following in a script:
esxcli network firewall ruleset set -e true -r httpClient
esxcli software profile update -p ESXi-6.7.0-20190504001-standard \
-d https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/main/vmw-depot-index.xml
esxcli network firewall ruleset set -e false -r httpClient
The output displays the following:
[OSError]
[Errno 28] No space left on device
Please refer to the log file for more details.
So I tried the guide here:
https://nullsec.us/esxi-update-fails-with/
But have had no success:
[root@esxitest:/tmp] esxcli software vib install -f -v /tmp/VMware_locker_tools-
light_10.3.5.10430147-12986307.vib
Installation Result
Message: Host is not changed.
Reboot Required: false
VIBs Installed:
VIBs Removed:
VIBs Skipped: VMware_locker_tools-light_10.3.5.10430147-12986307
Any ideas would be much appreciated. It has suggested removing old log files, but I wouldn't know what to remove, plus this being a new installation, there should not be much in the way of old unused files.
The main reason for wanting to apply 6,7U2 build 13644319 patch is to fix the issue where the web interface crashes when trying to create a VM from an OVF/OVA.
Many thanks again for your help.
Dear Community,
as per specs, APC PCNS only works up to VS 5.5. Has anyone tried it with VS 6? Or is there any other way to gracefully shutdown an ESXi 6 Host through an UPS?
Thank you an best regards,
Jens Graven
I'm new to using an SD card for installing ESXi. I've always been installing directly onto hard drive as our servers all use local storage and
I'd like start looking into using an SD card and have some questions.
The server uses local storage (Raid-10). In this case, is it really better to install ESXi onto SD?
When using an SD card, is the procedure different when patching and upgrading?
Is it even possible to pre-make the flash media with ESXi embedded so when an SD card fails, power it down then replace with pre-made SD then power it back up and restore the config?

Can you change security policy on a standard network switch to reject or accept with running vms or does host need to be in maintenance mode
Hello.
I can't browse my vCenter. When I want to browse it via web then it show me:
I did:
How can I solve it?
Thank you.
Setting up a single cable between switch and the server I have no slowness issues or anything.
However, when setting up a standard LAG and connecting two or more cables I immidiatly loose connection to the server.
The odd thing is that when I via console use the management network test sometimes it gives success on all tests, sometimes it can ping 1 out of 2 DNS servers, somtimes all tests fails.
I've seen several mention previous issues with the ntg3 module, but nothing specificially like this. I have tried also to disable the ntg3 module and run the tg3 instead, no change.
Running the same setup on a different server with intel chipset, same configuration in switch and ESXi, no issues there.
Any thoughts?
