Strange thing : User dcui@127.0.0.1 logged in and out messages flooding in event list

In ESXi's hot web page's event list, nearly every minutes, there are messages saying "User dcui@127.0.0.1 logged in as" and immediately "User dcui@127.0.0.1 logged out". Even if I reboot the host, the messages continues. What does the message come from? 127.0.0.1 seems it comes from the host itself, why? What it is doing?

ESXi: 6.0.0 Update 3 (Build 5050593)

And, I inspected /var/log/hostd.log, it has more details:

Want to know the reason. And what is sub=Vimsvc.ha-eventmgr? is Vimsvc.ha-eventmgr related to High Availablity?

Thanks a lot!

VCenter 6.5 U1 Console over RDP

$

Hi,

We can't access vcenter directly (security policy), so we have to establish RDP connection to jump host and than connect to vcenter. But over RDP vmware guest console is unusable, it eats characters some characters are unavailable and so on.

Without vmware tools (clean install) it is totally unusable, after tools it work better but  still bad. Is there any workaround or solution for given situation?

Thanks

Difference between "vmkload_mod xxxxx" and "esxcfg-module xxxxx"

$

I have found some articles talking about essentially the same thing except the command.  One talks about using the command

vmkload_mod xxxxx

while the other one talks about using the command

esxcfg-module xxxxx

where xxxxx is the name of one module.  Both commands talk about the same module.

So, what is the difference?

Mount USB Hard Drive

I have a standalone ESXi 6.7 server which is running the free edition.

Trying to just plugin a USB hard drive to copy vm's from drive to host and vice versa.

I have read on-line about stopping the usbarbitrator service which I have done and then plugged in the drive.

From what I have read the drive should be mounted and an entry appears in /vmfs/volumes but I'm not seeing anything.

I can see in /dev/disks new entries appear for the usb drive.

How can I mount the drive so I can access the storage on the drive either by shell or WinSCP?

The Mount command doesn't appear to be included in 6.7.

Lenovo ST250 ESXi VM Disappearing when host reboots

$

I also logged a message on the Lenovo Forums and have not had any response or suggestions, surely I cannot be the only person in the world with this problem?

The machine has had the latest firmware applied to the devices.

Configuration (NEW) Server

Lenovo ThinkSystem ST250 Standalone ESXi 6.7U3 Host, (free license) single VM, Small Customer Second Site.

I have the Lenovo 32GB M.2 SSD as the Boot Drive for ESXi on the standard SATA Onboard Controller

I have 2 X 900GB SATA SSD on Thinksystem RAID 930-8i (RAID1)

The VM is a MS Windows Server 2019 Std this phenomena was also happening on the 2016 Std VM I had on the same data store

Everytime the host restarts the VM disappears, I have to go into the DataStore Browser and register the VM and power up manually.

After the restart the Datastore is in tact, the datastore is there, however the VM disappears from the inventory

I also have a similar setup on which this DOES NOT Happen

Configuration (EXISTING) - I have restarted the Host many times and the VM starts up no problems

Lenovo ThinkSystem ST250 Standalone ESXi 6.7 Host, (free license) single VM, Small Customer Primary Site. (No Updates)

2 X 600GB SAS drives (RAID1) on Thinksystem RAID 930-8i as the Boot Drive for ESXi (different to problem host)

2 X 900GB SATA SSD on Thinksystem RAID 930-8i (RAID1) Same as other System

The VM is a MS Windows Server 2016 Std

The difference between the systems seems to be:

ESXi boot drive = 32GB SSD M.2 onboard SATA raid controller

ESXi 6.7U3 on this system, where the old sysem has ESXi 6.7

Someone please provide suggestions on the possible solution, as I can't handover to the customer in this state

Intermitted freeze of 6.7.0U3 ESXI host

Hi,

Having build a new lab server with:

Gigabyte C246M-WU4 Motherboard

128GB Corsair RAM

Intel Xeon E-2176G CPU

Samsung 970 PRO NVMe SSD

Fresh install of ESXI 6.7.0 Update 3 (free version)

I often experience that the host completely freezes with the black/white screen also frozen. No VM's are running, no ping/login to host. Num Lock doesn't work. F2 doesn't work. Everything has freezed.

I know that only the chipset + CPU are on the compatbility list, but I figured that if ESXI could run off an old HP laptop, then why not this machine.

Any suggestions to, how to find the root cause of the freezes? I'd really hate having to change to virtualbox

ESXi 6.5 - How to make second Port Group available to add to Virtual Machine Network Adapter?

$

I'm new to VMWare/vSphere/ESXi so struggling getting this initial configuration complete. I have installed ESXi 6.5, and have been able to complete most of the configuration on the host. I installed a new Virtual Machine from an OVA file, and that went well.

Now, we have two networks. A management network, and a data network. These are two completely isolated networks. I was able to configure the Host to connect to the two networks, and I created a new Port Group/vSwitch/VLAN on the Host. I want to add that Network to the VM, but then I edit the Virtual Machine and add the Network Adapter and attempt to assign the second Port Group, it is not available in the drop down list. How to I make that available to assign the the 3rd Network Adapter.

ESXi 6.0 - suddenly no more USB devices recognized

$

Hi everyone.
We use ESXI 6.0 on a HP ProLiant DL380G6. A newer version of ESXi doesn't match to the hardware.
After install of ESXI 6.0 and the virtual machines all usb devices were recognized in every virtual machine.

Suddenly the same usb devices are not recognized now. The usb arbitrator service is running.
The passtrough is activated for all USB entries on the host but we can't add a new usb device although the usb controller is installed in the virtual machines yet.
We have this scenario on all virtual machines (several with Windows 7 - one with Windows Server 2016)
Do we have to repair or reinstall the esxi 6.0?
Kind regards
Karsten

Change ESXI 6.5 Syslog level from debug to info

$

Hi,

I have configured syslog logging for my ESXI 6.5 hosts.

I have configured loglevel info for all syslog/vxa related entries in advanced settings.

My syslog server is filled up with crap (approx 100k messages a day from 1 host!)

I know I can edit the RHTTPPROXY config file and change it from verbose to info, but I cant find anything related to the HOSTD (and it should not be necessary to change the xml config files for something like this)...

Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks,

Hi VM Expert,

I need your inputs. We have a VMware ESXi, 6.0.0, 7504637, last update patch was ESXi600-201801402-BG ( 2018 Patch ) can I update it directly to the latest one ( ESXi600-201911401-BG and ESXi600-201911402-BG) or best practice is to install missing patches? I appreciate your help.

     To Summarize:

     1. Can I update old patches 2018 directly to the latest one without installing succeeding update\patches 2019?

Cannot download Vsphere Hypervisor 6 (free) - download link does not work

$

This has been happening since at least Saturday, and others have reported this as well (in the regular Hypervisor forums).

https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/evalcenter?p=free-esxi6

Neither the "manually download" nor the "Download Manager" links do anything.

I've tried 6 different computers (Windows XP and Windows 7 Home and Windows 7 Enterprise), 4 different web browsers (IE10, IE11, Firefox, chrome), and 3 different ISP (Verizon FIOS, Road Runner, and whoever supplies our Corporate LAN--AT&T or something).

I'm not sure VMware is even aware that there's an issue.

Updating DEll 2950 on VSphere 5.5 Essential to 6.5 Essentials

$

Hello.  I have task to update a Essentials cluster for 3  2 socket servers.      The 2950's support VSphere 6.5 so that is my goal, since  6.7 is not officially supported.

In starting we are freeing up one host in cluster as it only houses test vm's.

We run the vsphere virtual applicance

It is my understanding I first need to upgrade VSPhere to 6.0 or 6.5 as it can mange down to 5.5

After that I was going to do a fresh install fo 6.5 on the free 2 socket server and then migrate vm's over to it and then upgrade the other 2 servers, one at a time, coying VM's from the 5.5 to the 6.5 host.

Is there a problem with my upgrading vsphere from 5.5 to 6.5 or should I goto 6.0 first?

We backup all our vm's using Unittrends .  I will of course backup the vpshere vm  appliance before attempting any of this.

Any thing I need to be aware of before trying this?   I will be checking Dell for a Dell specific install of VSPhere 6.0 and 6.5 just in case before I start.

Regards,

Lou

Does a 6.0U3 iso from 2018 really need a patch from 2015?

$

0

If VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-Update3-9313334-HPE-preGen9-600.9.8.5.4-Sep2018.iso is used to new install a new host, does it still need ESXi600-201511001.zip ?

The patch appears to be needed for kb2136854:

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2136854

Normally I would assume such patches too old to apply to a late iso build, but it was mentioned for the current release of Backup Exec:

https://origin-download.veritas.com/resources/content/live/OSVC/100041000/100041607/en_US/be_20_scl.html

You'll see this mentioned when you search for KB 2137545, 2136854.

Perhaps Veritas mentions it in case a host is using a really old build from 2015?
