Hi
On a new server running ESXI 6.7 free, I configured the database disk to use the entire datastore (275GB), without knowning that snapshots need to go to the same disk.
So after creating two snapshots, the disk filled up (zero bytes left) and the virtual machine failed to start any more.
I attempted to delete the snapshots, but after 12 hours it was at 40% and I cancelled the deletion.
Afterwards the web interface was not showing any snapshopts, but the vmdk files were still there, and I got a notification that I should consolidate the disks of the VM.
I started this, and the web interface became unresponsive.
So I rebooted the system, deleted the disk from the VM and deleted the contents of the datastore manually. It still reported zero bytes available, so I restarted the system.
Now the VM autostarted, without the database disk, and I shut it down.
I got the datastore with the expected amount of empty space, but still got the notification to consolidate the disks.
The other disks of the VM are on different datastores - the system disk on SSD (50GB), and the data disk on a slower HDD (1.5TB on raid 1 of 4TB at 7200RPM), and I would like not to have to reinstall the system.
I started disk consolidation, but the web interface became again unresponsive.
Now, an hour later, the web interface became responsive again, the virtual machine is not showing up in the list of virtual machines, and the consolidate VMDisk task reports being at 1%.
How long is disk consolidation supposed to take? Creating the snapshots only took 2 minutes.
