Hi! I'm trying to install ESXi 6.7.0 from a pendrive, but when I start installing it I get the error: "Error loading /vsan.v00 Fatal error: 33 (inconsistent data)". I tried to reinstall the EXSi on the pendrive and change the pendrive as well, but I always get the same error. I hope you can help me, thanks!
Fatal error: 33 (Inconsistent data)
How do I force a mount of a VMFS volume ?

VMware ESXi 6.5 Installation fails with Error
Dear Community,
Please bare with me, for I am new to hypervisor operation(s). As such, I may make simple mistakes along the way. I purchased a Dell Precision T7500 from a 3rd party recently, with the following specifications:
- CPU :: (1x6crs.) Intel Xeon X5650
- RAM :: (6x2GB) 12GB DDR3
NOTE :: 3 active memory channels
- GPU :: (1x) nVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti
(1x) nVIDIA GeForce GT 520
- SFX :: (1x) Creative 'SoundBlaster' Audigy 2
- STR :: (1x) 4TB HDD
(1x) 500GB HDD
(1x) 320GB HDD
In addition to this, I should be receiving a CPU/RAM riser and a 2nd (identical) CPU in the mail in a few days/weeks. In that case, I'll have 2 of the same CPU in this workstation instead of one - and that will be the only thing changing. During the installation, I attempted to install ESXi to the 4TB HDD, to no avail. Here is a video of how my installation went:
ESXi Install Attempt :: Part I - YouTube
The final error that I arrive at is:
- Unable to successfully execute 'tryFormatDevice' after 3 tries
I've searched across Google, and have only arrived at one possible solution:
Expand the LUN (size?) from 8GB to 16GB.
Possibly related topic: ESX 6.5 is unable to format a partition when installing on iSCSI.
But, how does one expand/extend LUN? Is it in BIOS? Is it something that must be performed in the installer? Please help.
ESXi upgrade 6.0 to 6.5
hello,
I just finished upgrade to 6.5 on my machine. I tried to start the vms and they would not start. I kept getting the peer to peer connection error. After researching I found a possible issue might be the unlocker. I found the procedures to perform it. But the esxi.uninstall file is rw only, I am unable to change ownership to root:root , nor can I chmod any of the files to be able to run the script. I’ve tried the chmod command under both the user it was ran under as well as root.
any suggestions to on how to uninstall it so i can run the vms.

VM's lose network connectivity randomly
We have been experiencing some VM's losing network connectivity sporadically. The VM's stay online for a while then suddenly it acts like it is no longer on the network. Everything appears to be correct. The vNICs are connected and you can get to the console. I can't ping it from outside the host and the VM can't ping it's Def Gateway.
Hardware is 4 HP Gen 8 LFF with Quad port NIC's HP NC364T running ESXi 5 U1 with vCenter Server clustered.
Anyone experience this?
If I vmotion it to another host it comes back online. That's been our temporary solution.
Thanks
ESXi hangs on boot
For some reason my ESXi server (6.7) is now hanging at startup .. how do I go about fixing this?
Is there a way I can reinstall/repair it? (without losing my VMs/config)
TIA
Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro strange random network disruption with vSAN
Hello there dear community,
I see an odd behaviour with the card in the title and I would like to ask if anyone had the same experience or an idea?
Description of the setup:
The card is a Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro 40G card, jumbo frames enabled. The server is an Intel R2208WFTZS.
The card's firmware is on the latest stable version from mellanox.
The vsan's vmk interface is connected to one of the ports of the 40G card, jumbo frames enabled.
I'm using a non customised ESXI 6.7 image with the nmlx4_en native driver, all the latest patches installed.
Problem:
The setup works well, however occasionally totally randomly the vmk interface can't reach the other vsan nodes in the same cluster, can't ping anyone.
When I was doing packet capture on the vmk interface, I could see the arp requests arriving from the other nodes to the vmk interface, the interface responds to them, however the responses don't make it out of the server. Seemed similar to a unidirectional link.
If I reload the vmnic interface where the vsan traffic meant to go through, it all returns to normal, the traffic from vsan vmk starts to flow, arp responses to through.
Obviously the logs don't say much other than this interesting part:
2018-08-13T20:26:23.187Z cpu25:2097436)<NMLX_INF> nmlx4_en: vmnic2: nmlx4_en_QueueRemoveFilter - (vmkdrivers/native/BSD/Network/mlnx/nmlx4/nmlx4_en/nmlx4_en_multiq.c:2294) MAC RX filter (class 1) at index 0 is removed from

Seems like the vsan queue is being destroyed? Not sure why is that happening. And you see after that the dvs alarms come on.
Other than this line, no signs of driver and firmware related logs or crashes.
It happened on 2 servers already, identical ones so I'm afraid it's not just specific to one server. Don't really know where to start or how to dig deeper.
Any idea or suggestion?
Thank you very much!
Zoltan
Change Global Syslog Settings ESXi 6.5/6.7
Hi
How do I change the syslog levels for all services everywhere?
Would like to set everything to "Warning"
At the moment I have many messages "Debug" from "RHTTPPROXY" and "Verbose FDM"
Unable to Delete VMDK File
I recently deleted a VM with a large (1.4TB) VMDK file attached. When I checked the datastore a few weeks later a there was still a "vmname-flat.vmdk" file left over. However when I tried to delete it via the vSphere client I got an error saying "cannot delete file [DATASTORE_NAME] vmname-flat.vmdk". I connected to an ESXi host in the cluster and tried to delete it from there. Running "rm vmname-flat.vmdk" resulted in the error:
"rm: can't remove 'vmname-flat.vmdk': Bad address"
At the same time the following event was logged in vmkernel.log:
"2015-08-27T11:09:02.904Z cpu7:18223819)Fil3: 8848: Truncating <FD c157 r32> failed: Invalid address"
I have tried from a few different ESXi hosts, all with the same result. running lsof shows that the file is not locked by any process.
How can I delete this file?
hey any link for installing Esxi on a 32-bit machine?

Changing vCenter default VM setting from BIOS to UEFI
We are currently looking for a way to change the default VM setting from BIOS to UEFI, so we do not need to change the API call in our third party automation tool, but the vCenter creates only UEFI VMs in the future. Does anyone has a clue where to change it?
ESXi 6.x Hangs during boot after ntfs4client loaded - SOLUTION
Problem scope and background
ESXi 6.x after last unclear shuttdown stopped to boot. Loading was hanging on "ntfs4client" screen.
Alt+F1 showed following error message:
jumpstart: bora/lib/vmkctl/system/SystemInfoImpl.cpp:1511: virtual void VmkCtl::System::SystemInfoImpl::SetupSymlinks(bool, bool): Assertion `locker.get()` failed.
Reason
Problem leads to damaged swap file, most likely because of power-outage, swap file is marked as 'locked' and hypervisor couldn't deal with situation. Other possible reason is due to Swap Parser bug - due to file corruption, we see Assertion Failure and process silently quits.
Solution
Boot ESXi installer. Hit ALT+F1 to open Console.
Enter "root" and press Enter twice.
cd to /vmfs/volume/
cd to system datastore (which contains swp files/vswp files)
rm *.swp
rm *.vswp
Not sure if need to remove just a *.swp or both *.swp *.vswp - i removed both and booting went OK, having no excess time checking the exact nature of problem.

Piotr Karwowski
