VMware Workstation 10 - HDMI audio causes error

Hello,

My apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I've been combing the boards for hours, and have not turned up a solution.

I have a Lenovo desktop PC, with an ATI Radeon HD 8570 PCI graphics adapter.  Works fabulously with the guest OS, which is Win 7 Pro.

When I try to define ANY VM, with ANY OS, regardless of whether I instruct it to Auto-detect sound, or specify the speakers, or the HDMI-attached monitor, I get the error: "A device ID has been used that is out of range for your system.  Sound will be disconnected."

What do I need to do?  I am most interested in getting sound to work on an Ubuntu 14.04 LTS VM, for use in a Linux training course.
