usb modems will not dialout after 6.5 upgrade

$

I have 2x USB modems inside a Server 2008R2 instance for remote connectivity to customers.  After upgrading to esxi 6.5, I can still see the USB modems inside the VM and inside the OS displaying as connected but when attemping to dial out it fails and throws a windows based 'modem hardware failed to respond' error even though i know the HW is fine

Interestingly I built a Server 2012R2 and a Server 2016 instance.  Same problem on Server 2012 but works on 2016?

Unfortunately Server 2016 is having major performance issues on my 6.5 and besides this due to legacy software I have to keep this inside Server 2008.  Any help greatly appreciated.

Have tried all the obvious first steps like

-rebooting host

-rebooting USB devices

6.5.0 (Build 5310538) heavy load - no reaction

Hello

We hade this night an issue, with our esxi-Server.

The esxi didn't respond at all. It wasn't possible to logon in at the local terminal.

After a reboot it worked again.

As an attachment the support-log.

Any Ideas what's the reason for no respond of the esxi?

Thank you very much and regards

Luke

What vSphere Essentials 6.5 backup / restore VMs are available?

In follow Up - how simple and quick would it be to take a backup/snapshot made on failed hardware - and restore it to other hardware.

I am building a Windows 2012 R2 Essentials server and considering what benefit vSphere / EXSi would be.   I don't plan on loading multiple servers as this point.   However, having a second machine available to quickly transfer / relocate to could be possible.

Thank you for your time and input.

Добрый день всем!

Подскажите, пожалуйста, чтобы запустить ВМ с 1 сокетом, но на 16 ядер нужно приобретать Essential Kit ?

Сейчас система выдает ошибку при запуске ВМ Feature 'Virtual SMP' not licensed, requires 16 have 8

В разных обсуждениях, включая данный портал, пишут о том что базовая лицензия vmSphere которая получается после регистрации не накладывает никаких ограничений.

Поясните, пожалуйста, логику, докупать лицензии?

Спасибо!

Hello all

After registration on vm-site we have licence key - VMware vSphere Hypervisor 6 License

But when i tried start VM with one CPU and 16 cores per socket

Get  error -  Feature 'Virtual SMP' not licensed, requires 16 have 8

Question is wich type of licence we must have if we want start 2 VM with 1 cpu and more then 8 cores per socket?

Thanks!

Why does ESXi 6 host only see 1 LUN through HBA 12 go SAS ?

Hello,

I Installed our new small virtual architecture with 2 x D430 and one direct storage SCV2020. Through my vcenter appliance I can see the Avago (LSI Logic) Dell 12Gbps SAS HBA and succedeed in mounting 1 datastore but my other LUNs can't be seen even after one reboot and a new discovery. My cluster HA was also active but after 1 of my 2 hosts reboot the rebooted host does not see the HBA anymore and the cluster is no longer active...

I've checked my esx

mpt3sas and VVol PE warnings

We have couple of Dell R630 with Dell 12Gbps SAS HBA connected to Compellent SCv2020. We use DELL-ESXi-6.0U3-5224934-A01 and mpt3sas driver instead of default lsi-msgpt3. I can see four "Sanity check failed for path vmhba2:C0:T[0,1]:L25[6,7]. The path is to a vVol PE, but it goes out of adapter vmhba2 which is not PE capable. Path dropped." messages every five minutes. I did not find any SAS I/O driver with Secondary LUNID (Enables VVols) feature in Compatibility Guide so I don't understand why this messages appear.  Is it a side-effect that an iscsi_vmk driver (VVol PE capable) is used on this hosts?

Aggiunta Host in un cluster esistente

Ciao a tutti,

"Put all of this host's virtual machines in the cluster's root resource pool.

Resource pools currently present on the host will be deleted."

È corretta?

Voglio mantenere tutta la confluenza attiva/non dare nessun disservizio ho solo bisogno di mettere questo host nel cluster e successivamente spostare qualche VMs.

Grazie mille

Unable to mount downloaded VMDK - datastore not stating its a virtual disk

I have a datastore with several VMs for which I can download the VMDK to my workstation and mount them easily.

Problem is for one VM (which is working perfectly) I face the following,

  • The datastore browser takes longer than average to open its folder (other folders opens instantly)
  • The VMDK file is not stated as "virtual Disk" like in other VMs
  • I can see the -flat.vmdk file in the datastore, unlike with other VMs where I cannot see the -flat expect after downloading.
  • When I download the vmdk, I'm unable to mount it on Windows and it says not recognized.

Any ideas?

After doing a group vmotion, vms stop pinging for a significate time and then start to respond

I am adding some new hosts to an existing 5.5 u3 cluster.  After building and adding I have them sitting in maintenance mode. To validate builds I place cluster DRS to manual and exit maintenance mode on the new hosts.  I used 8 vms to test.  One at a time I vmotioned from existing hosts to each new hosts.  Orig host 1 to new host 1, new host 1 to new host 2, new host 2 to new host 3, etc ( I have 6 new hosts.  At the end all 8 vms where running on new host 6.  I then vmotioned all 8 vms to new host 5...again worked fine.  I then vmotioned all 8 vms to new host 4 and then all vms lost network pings for an extended period...I did not time outage but at least a minute.  The vmotion showed complete while ping was not responding. Eventually all VMs start responding at same time.  Since I didn't like what occurred I wanted to vmotion these VMs back to my original hosts.  So one at a time I vmotion the VMs back.  Each one again had an extended ping not responding after the vmotion had completed.

I am ruling out vlans missing from hosts since individual vmotions worked and vm eventually comes back online. (Also each of the 8 vms tested were on different vlans.)

I am ruling out rarp issues since again individual vmotions worked and update the physical switches.

Any other thoughts as to what I can look into?  Thanks

Running local operating sytem and usb ESXI host same time

Is it possible for me to have access to my local operating system while running the esxi host off a usb stick?  I want to be able to run the host and have access to OS so I can log into the client.  If that is not possible, from what I read I should use a VMware workstation for my host vmware machine?

Hostd.log in one the host (ESXi 5.5 Update 3)is flooded with the below message(more than 200K logs per day!):

<<2017-07-19T16:25:40.704Z [2CBEBB70 warning 'ukpStatsProvider.VSIStatsImpl'] failed to get vsi stat set: Sysinfo error on operation returned status : Not found. Please see the VMkernel log for detailed error information>>

Though it says 'see the VMKernel log for detailed error information', I don't see anything in VMkernel that is relevant to this message.

Any idea what is causing these errors and how to fix it?

strange ESXi behavior

All,

I see a strange behavior of ESXi host in the VCenter (Essential Kit for 3 servers).

I disconnected several local HDDs in the raid5 volume.

Local disk is changed its status to failed at the health tab.

Alarm raised.

All virtual machines are still 'Powered on' and pinging (!!!).

After 30 minutes this datastore was removed from ESXi host.

Alarm was cleared (!!!).

All virtual machines are still 'Powered on' and pinging (!!!).

There were several virtual machines: Windows 7, CUCM11.5.

Can anyone explain, is it correct behavior of the ESXi ???!!!

Why virtual machines are still 'powered on' and pinging ?

Please, direct me to any official articles/documentation.

Thanks

DL380 G7 stuck loading at vmkibft loaded

$

Hi,

I have an old DL380 G7 on which I have run an SPP update from April this year, and runs Bios P67.

This model is listed on the HCL for old version like 5.0 and 5.5, including 6.0 plus updates.

I have installed on a USB key and am trying to boot (same happens for the installer), but the boot just gets stuck on "vmkibft loaded successfully"

Am at a loss on why this is getting stuck here, and looking for some guidance.

Have also tried ensuring the inbuilt raid controller has no default volumes set for boot.

Cheers

James

About host memory - does maxing = crashing?

$

Say a host has 64GB of memory and vms are using up to 60GB for example.

Does it mean I can still use the rest of the 4GB?

What I mean is, does the host take what ever it needs and what ever is left is what is given to the vms to share?

If I max out the memory beyond sharing it between vms, can the host end up crashing?

Hi,

I am planning to migrate [V2V] VM's from vsphere 4.x to 6.5, I would like to know the process/best practices/ expected behavior, if any one did it in past.

Thank you,

Vkmr.

NFS 4.1 on ESXi 6.5: unable to browse datastore

I mounted a NFS 4.1 share on ESXi 6.5a (single host, no vcenter).

This is the CLI command, but I can also mount it via web interface:

 esxcli storage nfs41 add -a AUTH_SYS -H 192.168.98.4 -v MyLinuxNFS -s /mnt/ds-esxi

My linux /etc/exports is

     /mnt/ds-esxi    192.168.98.0/27(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,anonuid=1002,anongid=1002)

After correctly mounting it, I can see it on the web client:

But I'm unable to browse MyLinuxFS, the "Datastore browser" stays in the following state forever:

Permission are correctly set, because I can write files and see the datastore via the CLI:

[root@vm2:~] echo "123test" > /vmfs/volumes/MyLinuxNFS/testfile.txt
[root@vm2:~] ls -la /vmfs/volumes/MyLinuxNFS/
total 24
drwxr-xr-x    4 root     root             5 Feb  5 19:32 .
drwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           512 Feb  5 19:32 ..
drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root            10 Feb  4 17:10 testdir1
drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root             4 Feb  4 22:26 testdir2
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root             8 Feb  5 19:32 testfile.txt

NFSv3 is working fine, but I would like to use NFSv4.1 because I'm experimenting to workaround bug KB2010953 in a bigger infrastructure.

I also tried with FreeBSD 11, it seems to support NFSv4.1, but I have the same problem described here: FreeBSD11 NFSv4.1 is not compatible with ESXi 6.5.

Any idea to make NFS 4.1 work on ESXi 6.5 ?

VMware guests CTRL-F function not opening search function box

Hi,

I have an issue with the windows shortcut Ctrl-F which is not working on a few guests on a VMware Vsphere 5.5.

Initally the CMD regsvr32 oleacc.dll was able to bring up the search function initially but a day later the guest experienced the same issue, the only way I have a temp workaround on this is to hard reboot the RX300 test on CMD and launch, this doesn't always work.

Does anyone have any an idea what might be causing this?

A newbie here apologies if I have not provided enough information.

thanks

Hello

We are not sure if our ServerRAID M5210 and the newest stable Firmware (4.620.00-8080) is supportet or not by esxi 6.5:

Model :ServeRAID M5210 SAS/SATA Controller

ReleaseDevice DriverFirmware Version
ESXi 6.5lsi_mr3 version 6.910.18.00-1vmw.650.0.0.45641064.620.00-7178

VMware Compatibility Guide - I/O Device Search

Model: ServeRAID M5210e

ReleaseDevice Driver(s)Firmware Version
ESXi 6.5lsi-mr3 version 6.610.19.00-1OEM4.620.00-8080

VMware Compatibility Guide - I/O Device Search

The ServeRAID M5210 and ServeRAID M5210e are actually the same Controller. But there are diffrent Firmeware-Versions on the Compatibility Guide.

Thanks and regards

Luke
