I'm having issues opening any guest OS console in vSphere 6.0

 

I don't have vCenter. I'm using vSphere client 6.0 that is installed on my Windows 10 computer to connect to esxi host.

 

My computer is in domain. I'm using the same DNS information that is configured on esxi host. I can ping the esxi host vice versa.

 

 

 

Here is the error

 

SSL verification failure for "esxi host ip address" due to thumbprint mismatch: Stored thumbprint "83:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" does not match certificate thumbprint "43:xxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

 

I tried many things already....

- Checked the thumbprint in DCUI (it's the same "83:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx")

- Checked the thumbprint in the certificate file "rui.crt" (it's the same "83:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx")

- Installed the certificate on my computer certification store - personal, trusted root certification authority. After installed, i verified the thumbprint of rui.crt (it's the same "83:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx")

- Uninstalled and installed vSphere client

- turned off firewall and antivirus on my computer

 

I don't know where certificate thumbprint "43:xxxxxxxxxxxxxx" come from.

 

But still, I can't open the console.

Loading Module ipmi_si_drv taking to much time

Hi All,

 

Can you help me with our problem, Im new to Esxi. We have a DELL r720 in our company with a Esxi 4.1 (I inherited from the previous IT guy).

There was a power outage and the UPS did not suffice the time of outage.

 

After powering on, we got a n issue with our server DELL r720 iDRAC.

I applied the soft or hard reset but still IDRAC still no working, in short it FAILED.

 

I continue to load the  ESXi, but it cant load the "impi_si_drv"

I found some article to disable the module "impi_si_drv"

by using "Shift+O" and enter the command "noipmiEnabled"

 

but its not working

"could not find kernel image: noipmiEnabled"

Preparing of Migration to 6.5 U2

Hello Experts ,

 

I have some questions about our Migration from 5.5 to 6.5 .we will replace  our virtuel datacenter equipements with new ones .

 

our Vcenter 5.5  is in our old domain x.local and the new one will be in our new domain y.com.

our ESXi 5.5 are not joined to the Domain .the authentication is locally and they use the DNS of our old domain x.local

 

before migrating to 6.5 with new Domain y.com , i would migrate our Vcenter 5.5 from x.local to y.com

 

Could you tel me the steps please ? i'm afraid if there will an impact to our VMS

Hi All,

 

I recently installed RVtools,(RVtools is a free tool and lite weight tool to view and get information on all the esxi/esx host)

 

In RVtools on one of the option vhealth check there i can one of the suggestion as

 

"Possibly a Zombie VMDK file ! Please Check"

 

what does it mean , and what can be done to remove that error.

 

Does any one got the similar message.

CVE - Local Access Question

Hi,

 

I have a silly question. I'm pretty new and I'm learning about ESXis. Recently, I received a few CVE notices, it often talks about "A malicious actor with local access" or "A malicious actor with local administrative privileges".

 

Does this mean the user needs to connect directly with the console or does it mean that as long as they can somehow remote using either the UI, SSH it's vulnerable?

[HELP] - HP DL380G8 530FLR SFP+ Not working as intended...

hello community!

I've encountered a weird thing today...

My new home lab host just came and I'm super excited about it.

 

I have a problem though I couldn't load esxi because it kept complaining about not having nics available... obviously not true because the server came with a 530flr sfp+ card installed and seemingly working.

 

I loaded linux on the server and with lspci the card was there listed but due to strict time I had no chance of doing any more testing in linux...

 

I brought home for test a 4 port 1Gbps card and with that in the server I managed to load esxi 7.0

 

The fun begins here though...

This card received names vmnic2 3 4 and 5...

0 and 1 were not visible...

I did "esxcfg-nics -l" and same story...

I did lspci and as expected it listed as linux did the 2 nics on the 530flr... with vmnic0 and vmnic1 listed next to them. See picture attached for reference.

 

From compatibility matrix I know the card is compatible.

I downloaded from there the driver and did an esxcli software vib install but it skipped all vibs probably because already present in the machine...

 

My idea at this point is maybe a firmware issue... but I have no idea how to check what version is there and/or how to flash a newer one from esxcli...

 

Someone has ever incurred in such problems?

VMWare cpu usage

Hi All,

 

need advise here.

 

we have vmware 6.5 with multiple hosts.

 

we have multiple VMs and they are allocated single vCPU (lets say 10 VMs with single)

then few more VMs that have multiple processors.

 

when i look at system graphs i can see CPU 0 is always 80% but other CPUs (2 physical cores - and 24 virtuals ) are not doing much.

 

is there any way that VMs which are allocated single CPU used different CPU rather than CPU 0? - i looked into affinity but its advised not to use cpu affinity. any suggesstions?

Inherited ESXi Implementation without Credentials

We've got a serious problem: A server that we have inherited to support is running on an ESXi base system for which we seem to not have credentials.  The only credentials we were given were for the 'root' user.

 

ssh was never enabled on the platform apparently as ssh attempts fail.

 

The ESXi base must be 6.5 or higher as vSphere client attempts fail with the expected error when tried from multiple machines.

 

https:// to the underlying ESXi raises the expected vmWare credentials prompt for User name and Password but the 'root' user and supplied password fail there.

 

Are there any back doors that we could try?  Any suggestions related to breaking into the ESXi base?

vAPP deployment to Single Host

Hi Guys,

 

I am trying to build a cloneable environment for my users. The solution I am trying right now is a vAPP the users only have permission to clone. The problem I have is that, its a requirement in my setup that the vAPP needs to be all on one host. When I clone the vAPP I am asked which host to clone to, however when I power on the vAPP the VM's are spread across my cluster. I have vSphere HA turned off, and I have DRS set to manual.

 

The ideal outcome is that when I clone the vAPP, the host that I select is where the VM's stay until the users finish with them.

Storage missing

Hi,

 

Im currently testing VMware ESXi 7 and my question is related to storage or datastore. I have 250GB SSD with RAID 1, and in my VMware I notice the following partition.

 

1. EFI System (100 MB)

Free space (1.97 MB)

5. Basic Data (4 GB)

6. Basic Data (4 GB)

7. VMFSL (119.9 GB)

8. VMFS (109.87 GB)

 

The question is why VMFSL (119.9 GB) is not visible in the the datastore. In my datastore I had 109 GB storage only and cannot expand it or add another one. Do you know how can I add this VMFSL?

Renew free license for VMware ESXi 6.5 after power failure

I have a lab server with VMware ESXi 6.5.0, that has been running for 3+ years. After a power failure it starts up, but any attempt to start an existing VM results in the following error message:

 

  Failed to power on virtual machine VM_NAME. License key has expired. Click here for more details.

 

The only license key that I have been able to access in the My VMware portal is for "VMware vSphere Hypervisor 7". I have tried to apply that license key to my 6.5.0 server, but it's not accepted.

 

Any hints?

We added a new esxi to the cluster. While checking the storage adapters, we saw that there are too many adapters in 2 others on our new esxi. Is this a normal situation?  why the number of adapters is different. there is also a storage performance problem

Is it too early to install ESXi 7.0 into production?

I have a new HP Nimble SAN and 6 new HP Gen 10 DL 380.  I have 6.7 U3 ready to go but I'd like to go 7.0.  I know it just came out but I wanted to see if anyone has installed it.  Should I install or should I wait until the bugs are worked in future updates?  It will ultimately be my call but i wanted to see if you guys could share your experience with this latest update.  Thanks.

I can't see my storage

After I change my RAID controller (Lenovo 4610), I am not able to see my storage, as a result my vms are not valid. In storage --> Devices I can see the volumes but it seems the path changed.

Path:

/vmfs/devices/disks/naa.600062b200bda5b0ff0000310310aa2c

 

Some can give a hand?

VMware vSphere Hypervisor 7.0 - Unable to add secondary uplink/use onboard NIC.

Hi, this is my first time setting up ESXi hence please pardon me if I do not provide all the required details. I apologise beforehand.

 

I have a Dell Precision Workstation that is not part of the HCL. However, both of my NICs are certified as per the compatibility list. I am running VMware vSphere Hypervisor 7.0 free edition.

 

Here you can see both of the NICs being detected.

 

 

 

Onboard NIC - Ethernet Connection I219-LM. I am able to see this in NIC in the system list but I am unable to add this as an uplink

 

PCIe - Ethernet Server Adapter I210-T1. After installation, this NIC is where management interface starts automatically.

 

What am I doing wrong and How do I use both the NICs?

Hello community,

this is mostly a request to confirm my doubts... am I right in assuming that ESXi 6.7.0 HPE Edition does not support the HBA in the title?

 

That is the integrated Controller in my server and it needed to be cheap...

Smart Array S100i SR does only software raid from what I could understand... am I right?

 

Is there a way to make it work somehow?

 

I have connected 4x 4TB drives in Raid5...

If this does not work what is a cheap raid card I can throw in this server to make it operational?

CPU and VM setup

Hi Guys,

 

Physical Hardware

ESXi version 6.5

Processor Type: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5650 @ 2.67GHz

Sockets: 2

Cores per Socket: 6

Hyperthreading: Yes, enabled

 

There appears to be mixed views online in terms of setting the number of CPU's on a VM.

Just need to iron this out and hope someone can help on this forum.

 

Basically I have a VM currently setup with 4 cores and 2 sockets (8 CPU's).

Would this perform better if I had set it up with 2 cores and 4 sockets (also 8 CPU's)?

 

The typical processors running on this particular Windows 2016 VM is usually Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Chrome, Firefox...etc

nothing too taxing that requires Hyperthreading, however Hyperthreading is active.

esxi7 does not recognize my Perc H310

Hi,

During fresh installation of ESXi7, it complains about incompatible hardware with number 1000:0073 1028:1f51

I can complete the install.

The incompatible device it complains about, is the Perc H310 embedded RAID controller, which is on the compatibility list with the exact same number.

The driver is loaded:

lsi-mr3 Broadcom Native MegaRAID SAS driver for vmkernel 7.712.50.00-1vmw.700.1.0.15843807 VMW Tuesday, April 07, 2020, 17:20:48 +0200

Commands esxcli storage core adapter list and esxcli storage nmp device list do not list the adapter.

 

 

Any suggestions are very much appreciated
