Windows 2012 R2 Losing network connection random

$

Hi,

On ESXi5.5 we have installed 2 Windows 2012 R2 servers.

ESXi and Windows server all have latest updates.

We face the issue that the servers random lose network connection to each other all explained in VMware KB2058692 VMware KB: Possible data corruption after a Windows 2012 virtual machine network transfer

We allready tried to change network adapters of the virtual machine to vmxnet3 or e1000 instead of the default e1000e adapter, and disable TSO on the guest Windows 2012 R2 OS.

All with no succes.

Is there any other workarround for this problem?

Kind regards,

Gjalt Kootstra

Recover vmfs volume or datastore

I am in process of moving ESXi to new hardware (ESXi is installed on USB stick with three hard drives)

But as expected none of hardware listed as data store but disks were available.

I tried this before because of lost USB stick in moving when creating data store from available disks didn't formatted hard drive.

The only difference is this time I used Web UI instead of ESXi client.

I am not VMWare expert especially when you lost 1TB of data

Any help will be much appropriated.

Please let me know if it's recoverable anyhow.

Disk Provisioned Size Greyed Out

I have a virtual SCSI drive for a Windows 2008 64-bit guest.  I have recently run out of disk size and need to increase it.  From the online help, apparantely I can increase the size even while the VM is running.  However, whether running, suspended, or shutdown, I am not able to increase the disk size.  The option is greyed out, as you can see below.  What am I missing?

Thanks!

OVF deployment problems after upgrading to 6.5

$

0

I have a Win7 box with VMware Workstation 12.5 installed where I build all of the OVFs required by my team.

Recently I upgraded from vSphere 6 to 6.5 and that comes of course with the pain point made mandatory -  the web client.

It's not enough that everything I need to do going from thick client to web client is now scattered all over the place like going from XP to Win10 without trying to miss a beat.

Something major that I need to do, deploying OVFs isn't even working anymore...

First things first, I'm in vcenter and deploy the OVF after maybe 30 minutes right at the end of the deployment received an error regarding a checksum on the manifest file.  Well this is umm, your manifest file VMware created by the latest version of VMware Workstation. Hmm.

So I've traversed a few roads with this OVF stuff over the years, I checked into the virtual hardware, it's a new server 2016 VM I'm trying to deploy so I wanted to make sure I didn't have anything messed up with virtual hardware versions or virtual hardware types that have been problematic in prior versions.  Nope, everything looks to be ok.

Second try at deploying -- during the browse to files I didn't select the manifest file, I left it out, the import appears to be successful, no checksum errors.

Attempt to boot up the VM and receive this message:

A disk read error occurred

Press control + alt + del to restart

Hmm, is this OVF corrupt?  So I re-export it from Workstation and redeploy it... same error.

Do I have SAN issues?  Redeployed to a different datastore on a different array... same error.

Is there like some incompatibility with the virtual SCSI controller on 6.5?  I am running LSI Logic SAS, should be fine.  I tried one or two others, ... same error.

Upgraded the virtual hardware, ... same error.

Upgraded the OVF tool VMware Workstation uses to the latest version available 4.2..re-export OVF, import, ... same error.

Eventually hit google and see a bunch of stuff in the 6.5 release notes for OVF, nothing however seems to match up exactly with what I'm seeing here.

Spoke with a couple of co-workers who claimed to have deployed the same OVFs that I built for them on standalone ESXi 6.5 (no vcenter) and claimed to have not experienced this issue!

Now I go to one of the standalone ESXi 6 servers that I have admin rights on in another dept.  Deploy the same OVF, it deploys with no error and boots right up.

Hmm, so now I shut down the VM and export it from the stand alone ESXi server, import it to my 6.5 vSphere, same error, disk read error.

So that rules out Workstation but can anyone tell me what's going on with this?

I have wasted a good portion of several days on this issue and seem no further along to understanding it.

Dell Official Outlet Refurbished Laptops, Desktops, Servers & Monitors

Tech Specs

Processor: Intel Xeon E3-1220 v5 Processor (Quad Core, 3.0GHz, 8M Cache, 80W)

Windows 10 Pro

256GB 2.5Inch SATA Class 20 Solid State Drive

32 GB DDR4 UDIMM Non-ECC 2400MHz (2x16GB)

16X Half Height DVD +/- RW

NVIDIA NVS 315 1GB (DMS59 - Dual DVI adapter)

Dell Outlet Precision T3620 Mini Tower

I cannot find anyone saying yes or not if this line of devices works or not. I have seen older dell precision devices mentioned but not any recently.

I know there is the poweredge towers but they are currently out of my price range. I am going to keep checking around but this seems like a decent deal that could work. All I need is ESXi and maybe 2-4 VMs

Thanks

Hello guys,

I have to set up 2 machine with Vmware 6 and at the same time providing high availability fot the VMs created over there, but in this my project we do not gonna use External storage, because it will use just to couple vms, and then I was searching of how to use local shared datastore, nonetheless I've read some thing regarding of VSan, but I can't understand it very well and if i would be able to set up this machine in order to share their datastore.

I've found some post, but it wasn't clear.

Can someone help me with that pls?

WE are upgrading VMs to newer compatibility and vmtools, and we are experiencing crashes.   We are aware of the bug where Linux VMs with VMXNET3 are affected, this doesn't appear to be the issue.

I'm wondering why these e1000 adapters are suddenly appearing as flexible.  This is a new one to me.

Can someone please advise?

ESXi v6 Patch Update showing prior build number

On ESXi v6.0 I downloaded Build 9919195 and installed that update but when I look at the server it's showing build 9313334.

The prior build was 9239799 before I updated to 9919195.

Has anyone ran into this before and is it really 9919195?

Upgrading from ESXi 5.0 in simple, single host environment

$

I have a very small server on which I am running ESXi 5.0. I don't have vCenter Server, I just connect to it from vSphere client.

This was ok when my VMs were older versions of Windows but I now find ESXi 5.0 is not compatible with Windows 10, for example.

I have searched for simple instructions to upgrade to a newer ESXi version, but everything I've found seems geared towards enterprise installations with lots of hosts, vCenter etc.

What is the easiest way to get from ESXi 5.0 to a version of ESXi that supports Windows 10? If this can be done remotely, that would be good, but not if I need to buy licences etc. for additional products.

Thanks for your help.

VM performance issue

Hi All,

Small setup with one ESXi server/one production VM.VM is running on local data store of ESXi server(RAID 6 configured).Raid 6 configured in hardware level and created a datastore with multiple hard disks.Data store size 18.19 TB

Please note:- ESXi os is running on one local data store.VM is running on another data store which size is 18.19 TB

Only one production VM is running on ESXi server.VM has 3 VMDK and the size is around 12 TB.

We are facing performance issue and currently suspecting this performance issue is related to disk latency.Could you please help me to dig further on this case?

CPU & memory usage is under normal and seeing disk latency in periodic intervals.

ESXi version is 6.0.0 U2

Windows 2012 VM -->VMtools running(Out of date)

realtime stats:-

Disk stats:- Accepted latency should be less than 10 ms.here it is above 20 ms in regular intervals.

vdisk stats: Accepted latency should be less than 5 ms.Here it is above 15 ms in regular intervals.

Commands checked:- Device Max Queue Depth: 128.Both OS data store and VM data store queue depth is 128.

Moving a virtual machine from 1 datastore to another

Hi everyone,

I have vsphere 5 essential plus licence and  a server 2008 which is a db server in an AD environment.

The server is in one of the 3 vSphere HA enabled hosts.

The server's db disk is getting low I need to move the server to a new datastore if possible because I really do not have much space on that store and I can't allocate more space to extend it.

I haven't done this before and don't know how where to begin.

This transition shouldn't effect the AD conf and NTFS permissions.

I need you help and advises on this.

Thanks

Melih
