ESXi 4 server will not boot into host after shutting down via vSphere

Hi all,

Very strange issue here. I simply needed to move my server, so I shut it down gracefully via vSphere. When I turned it back on, it was stuck at the following prompt:

SYS Linux 3.63 0x48efda77 EBIOS Copyright (C) 1994-2008 H. Peter Anvin

_

(the "_" is a blinking cursor. It does not say "Boot: _", just the cursor).

I did some research and saw on a KB article that this usually has to do with numlock/caps lock or a key like shift being stuck, but it still does this even with no keyboard attached. It's also good to note that the hard drive activity LED blinks for a few minutes and then stops. So it seems that it's doing something but I cannot tell what.

I inherited this server from a previous admin (independent support, no corporate records kept) and so I did not configure this and I'm not sure my next step.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated! Thank you!
