I recently purchased 4 new UCS b200 M5 to add to an existing Cluster that supports a Citrix farm. These new blades differ from the existing blades as they have a higher core count, (18c new to 8c existing) . In a perfect world, maybe I could replace them al to same CPU set but budget prevails. The purpose was to provide more cores to an overcommitted cluster serving Citrix session host environment. so now i will have 3 blades with 72 cores vs 3 blades with 32 cores in the same cluster. I want to completely utilize all available cores in a 1 to 1 map of physical to Vcpu provisioned on the VM. My session host are allocated with 4 Vcpu so dividing all available Vcpu/Vm provisions 78 session host. Question: Is it best to let DRS manage the placement of the VM or should I create an affinity rule that ties a particular group of Vm's to a host..( ESX blade 1 with 32 c will be assigned XAppServer 1-8 while ESX blade 4 with 72 cores will be assigned Xappserver 9-32. Thanks
