I've been at this all day and its just infuriating. I moved my rig from a T3600 because I outgrew it. Hardware:
- Supermicron X9SRi-F
- Xeon E5-2650
- 32GB RAM
- Four SATA Drives (AHCI configuration)
Really quick: The board states it uses C600 and the Intel Patsburg chipset. It states that that SATA 0,1 are SATA 3.0 and 2-5 are SATA 2.0, while the remainder are "Internal Serial-Attached SCSI (SAS) ports".
Now under storage>adapters:
- Patsburg 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller runs on a vmw_ahci driver
- Patsburg 4-Port SATA Storage Control Unit runs on an rste driver
- iSCSI Software Adapter runs on a iscsi_vmk driver
Regardless of where I put the SATA drives, I can always see them in ESXi under "Storage>Devices" along with their VMFS, but I only browse the Datastores when the drives are in the 9th or 10th port. Doesn't make sense. Here's a preview of the behavior on a fresh ESXi install https://imgur.com/VVIJZop. I then Swapped the SATA with no reboot, I was able to bring an VM online: https://imgur.com/MV0YZ5A
In an attempt to fix this, I ran:
esxcli system module set --enabled=true --module=vmw_ahci
Any help would be appreciated. Life has been rough without the rig...this is day 3.
