Local ATA Disk missing from Storage Devices

Logging into the host with vSphere Client I see that the installed Windows 7 client VM is named "Unknown (inaccessible)".

There is also a message on the host configuration tab that says "The VMware ESX Server does not have persistent storage."

Under the configuration tab, in Hardware>Storage, my datastore is gone and under Devices, the Local ATA Disk is not in the list of devices (only the cdrom).

Using the Add Storage wizard there is no Disk/LUN to select in the second step. The list is just empty.

This machine is at a remote office and no hardware changes have been made. Windows updates may have been applied to the client but I can't get a hold of those admins to confirm.

There is only 1 HDD in the machine, 80gigs, and the VM host and client are both installed on it.

Is there anything I can do to restore functionality?
