I'm ripping my hairs out at this point, any idea what is going on? I need to shutdown the hosts and I want to make sure I can connect to them directly without vCenter.
- I have a virtualized vCenter - I can connect to it with vSphere client just fine and manage everything. I logon as domain admin (windows AD domain)
- I have the root password for both esxi servers - I tried getting in with local console and it works fine
- I can browse to both esxi hosts at http://local_ip_of_esxi , it shows me a website with links to download vsphere, vcenter etc..
- I cannot use this IP to connect to each esxi host directly using root/password, I get 'incorrect password' type of response.
- under permissions of vCenter or any host or any VM I only see administrators (user/group), administrator (role), vcenter.domain (defined in).
should I see "root" there too? but how do I define it?
