Design advice on Virtual Distributed Switch

Evening All,

I am looking for a bit of advice here...I have implemented a standard vSwitch configuration, but our network architect is asking about the possibility of using VDS.

The environment looks as follows:

* 4 x Dell PowerEdge R640 servers each with:

     * 2 x 10GbE NICs (onboard)

     * 2 x dual port 1GbE NICs (4 ports in total)

* 2 x New Fortigate switches capable of both 1GbE and 10GbE

How do i create this VDS with the NICs across the 4 servers above? Put all 4 NICs per server into it and then let VMware sort out the routing? Or all the 1GbEs (16 in total, 4 per host) and the 10GbEs (8 in total) into 2 separate VDSs?
