Hello, I have a conundrum. I have a PowerEdge T320 server that is dying, and I cannot get a good download of the vmdk files, due to read errors. (multiple attempts, many methods, would work for a few hours then fail)
I do have a good copy of the Windows Server 2012 r2 backup (BMR, system state, etc) on a USB drive. I am going to have to use this to restore my VM.
On a new physical server, I have a created a new guest server VM, and passed through the USB and CD-ROM devices to the guest. When I attempt the System Restore from the Windows server CD, it will not find the backup image on the USB drive. I have verified it is a good backup image by trying a "physical" restore attempt, bypassing VMware.
Has anyone been successful in doing a BMR of a Windows Server backup from an external USB drive to a different physical server, running ESXi 5.5?
thanks!
Scott
