Thanks for reading. I've got a couple ESXi 6.5 hosts (VMware ESXi, 6.5.0, 4887370) that esx is installed to and boots from a USB drive. The hardware is a supermicro rackmount server (Supermicro SYS-1028R-MCTR)
I'm getting this error on both of them:
Lost connectivity to the device mpx.vmhba32:C0:T0:L0 backing the boot filesystem /vmfs/devices/disks/mpx.vmhba32:C0:T0:L0. As a result, host configuration changes will not be saved to persistent storage.
That looks like the USB drive has gone bad, however, when I remove the USB drive and stick it in another machine, I can read it just fine, and there is nothing wrong with it. The USB drives I'm using are low-cost, generic devices, so I'm wondering if that has something to do with the problem?
Do any of you boot from USB and if so, what brands and models of USB drives do you have good luck with?
Thanks for your help!
