ESXi 6.5 and snapshotting 101

forgive the noob question - i'm a hyper-V guy trying to be a convert.

i've been looking through the wen and documentation for an  answer and either it's for an older version (using the thick client) or it talks about things that i can't find in the web client.

here's the deal.  I'm running ESXi 6.5 and i've got a VM which i want to use as a snapshot base - basically to have a set point of the application and database (on the VM) that i can go back to for dev and testing purposes.  i perform a "take snapshot" on the VM and create a snapshot.  in the manage snapshot window i see the VM and an entry below it called "You are here".

i've reached a point where i want to dump this snapshot branch and go back to the base VM, create a new snapshot wand work on that.

I've read that deleting a snapshot (or Delete All option) merges the snapshot with the parent or parents above it, up to and including the base VM itself - essentially creating a VM that has recorded all the changes made while running the snapshot.

I do not want this!!!!

i want to be able to go back to base VM where i took the snapshot - before i made any changes - take another snapshot and proceed from there (basically working from a "clean slate" again).

the only thing i can find is a passage in the documentation that says

To prevent snapshot files from merging with the parent snapshot, for example in cases of failed updates or

installations, first use the Go to command to restore to a previous snapshot. This action invalidates the

snapshot delta disks and deletes the memory file. You can then use the Delete option to remove the

snapshot and any associated files.

Thing is i can't find any reference to this Go to command in the web client.

can someone point me in the right direction?  and as experienced a Hyper-V guy i am, i'm really gonna have to ask for the "for Dummies" version on how to revert back to the base image in VMware.

Thanks in advance

B
