Hi Guys,
We have two RAID sets on our server, 1 RAID 5 for all of our production data and 1 mirror set for the C: drive of our main VM and the other config files.
I noticed yesterday that our server went down complaining about not having enough disk space, which is weird because we only provisioned about 200GB out of ~580GB.
I looked on the datastore browser and there see to be a lot of .vmdk files that are sitting there that don't correspond to any of the virtual disks on the VMs. Some are using up a lot of space (up to 40GB) and now I cant start up either VM!
The virtual disks on our VMs have the following nomenclature:
[vmname1]/[vmname1]-000006
[vmname1]/[vmname1]_1-00006
[vmname1]/[vmname1]_2-00006
[vmname1]/[vmname1]_3-00006
[vmname1]/[vmname1]_4-00006
and
[vmname2]/[vmname2]-00004
But on the drive, using the datastore browser we have [vmname1]/[vmname1]_1-00001 through to [vmname1]/[vmname1]_4-00006 some of the names correspond to the actual virtual disks above but some seem to be earlier in the series, like the VMs have created new disks for themselves.
Can I delete the old disks? How do I stop any more from being created?
thanks,
Daniel
