random vmx corruption on reboot, affects only passthru/ partial workaround.

Esxi 6.5; running on intel Xeon e5 2690 ; windows 10 vm's.

The vmx files randomly become corrupted when rebooting the host. This occurs whether or not I put the machine in maintenance mode prior to reboot and only affects vm's that have pcie passthru devices. The vm comes back up as invalid , and deregistration doesn't fix it.

On investigating the vmx file, the very final character (which happens to be a ") has been deleted.

usb:0.parent = "-1"<== that final quote vanishes

and adding this back and re-registering the vm fixes everything.

WIERD. I suppose I could move all the vmx files to read only but I can't imagine what else that would break.

why is this very weird behavior occurring, and can anything be done to stop it? I *could* try removing write permissions but suspect this might break something else!

Thanks.
