Present iSCSI to ESXi or Directly to Guest

Hi,

I would like to present additional storage to my Window SBS2008  guest on ESXi4.1. I have a simple mirrored NAS device with iSCSI.

I am thinking of either presenting it to the ESXi host and adding a vHDD to the guest or presenting it directly to the Guest OS using Microsoft initiator.

I am using Veeam B&R to replicate the guest to a DR host, but by DR host does not have enough storage for the additional storage, but the contents of the data stored on the additional storage (guest files) will be replicated to a cloud provider. So local DR for the additional storage is not essential.

Hence my hesitation to present to the ESXi host as DR is only advantage I can think of currently.

Does the community have any thoughts on best practice for this instance please :-)

Thanks

Riley
