ESXi 6.5/6.0 problem with Intel RMS3CC080 storage controller

Hi to all,

I'm having many trouble installing ESXi on a new Intel Server.

The Server have an hardware raid controller, the Intel RMS3CC080, with firmware version 4.660.00-8102. I've a 4 x 2TB disks in RAID5.

Looking at the compatibility table, it's seam it's fully supported, in 6.0 or 6.5 (VMware Compatibility Guide - I/O Device Search )

If I try to install the 6.5 standard version, I can't see the virtual disk from the selection list. I've also tried to create a custom iso with the drivers from the compatibility page (I've tried 3 different iso, with the first 3 drivers), but nothing change.

Looking with the lspci, and esxcfg-scsidev -a the storage controller is present but it can see any disk.

Using the standard iso (or modified iso, with the drivers) of the 6.0 u2 version, it show the disk in the list (as a remote disk), but selecting it, the setup fail, with a memory corruption error (it seam a memory leak), for example:

** glibc detected *** /bin/python: double free or corruption (out): 0x1f39d200 ***

Looking in dmesg I can only found an error about python  fault, or some random error about the disk, like:

SCSIDeviceIO: Cmd(0x.......) 0x85, CmdSN 0x14 from world 34526 to dev "naa.6................." failed H:0x0 D:0x2 P:0x0 Valid sense data: 0x5 0x30 0x0

Any suggestion on how to solve?

How could I check if the drivers are correct? (It's strange that in the 6.5, the disk doesn't appear, even if the controller is recognized and listed in esxcfg-scsidev -a)

Thanks to all

Daniele
